''Via'' is the debut full-length album by Los Angeles-based metalcore band Volumes. It was initially released on September 27, 2011 through Mediaskare Records. The album is considered an important contributor to the djent sound, among other albums released in the same year, such as Vildhjarta's ''Måsstaden'', TesseracT's ''One'' and Born of Osiris' '' The Discovery''. The album was re-released in 2016 independently under the 91367 Records moniker, remastered and with a new cover. Volumes (band)
Volumes (sometimes stylized as VOLUMES) is an American progressive metalcore band based in Los Angeles, California. The group consists of bassist Raad Soudani, vocalists Michael Barr and Myke Terry, and drummer Nick Ursich. Volumes debuted their first EP, ''The Concept of Dreaming'', in 2010. This was followed with their debut album, '' Via'' (2011), and their sophomore album, '' No Sleep'', in 2014. Both albums peaked at No. 1 on the iTunes Rock and Metal charts. Volumes make use of "bouncy" guitar riffs, groove-driven breakdowns, nu metal influence and dual lead vocalists. One (TesseracT Album)
One is the debut studio album by British progressive metal band Tesseract. Released on 22 March 2011, the album features six tracks. The third track, "Concealing Fate", was split into six parts for a total length of twenty seven minutes and forty seconds. This was Tesseract's only full-length release with vocalist Daniel Tompkins until his return in 2014. A bonus track entitled "Hollow" was released digitally to those who pre-ordered ''One'' from Century Media. A live studio play through of "Concealing Fate" was also included as a bonus DVD along with the album. In September 2011, an instrumental version was released digitally and in October that year both the album and the instrumental version were released on vinyl as a double LP. "Nascent" was released as a promotional single in February 2011, and music videos were released for both "Nascent" and "Deception". Scale the Summit is an American instrumental progressive metal band based out of Houston, Texas. It formed in 2004 and signed to Prosthetic Records. The band is influenced by other progressive acts such as Cynic and Dream Theater. The band gained notice as part of the Progressive Nation 2009 tour with Dream Theater, Zappa Plays Zappa and Bigelf. History Formation and early years Chris Letchford and Travis Levrier grew up in the same neighborhood, but never played music together until 2004, after they reconnected a few years earlier in a record store discussing a common interest, Between the Buried and Me. The duo formed a metal band in Houston that had trouble finding a bass guitarist and drummer. ''The Discovery'' is the second studio album by metal band Born of Osiris. It was released through Sumerian Records on March 22, 2011. It is also the first Born of Osiris record to make use of seven string guitars, and was produced solely by members of the band. Early demo versions of some of the album’s songs were produced and mixed by Misha Mansoor but the final retail release was mixed by Jason Suecof. Metalcore
Metalcore (also known as metallic hardcore) is a fusion music genre that combines elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. As with other styles blending metal and hardcore, such as crust punk and grindcore, metalcore is noted for its use of breakdowns, slow, intense passages conducive to moshing. Other defining instrumental qualities include heavy riffs and stop-start rhythm guitar playing, occasional blast beats, and double bass drumming. ''Måsstaden'' ( Swedish: ''"The seagull town"'') is the debut album by Swedish metal band Vildhjarta. Released on 28 November 2011, the album peaked at 37 on the US Top Heatseekers chart. This was the first release to feature co-lead vocalist Vilhelm Bladin and the last to include founding member (and third guitarist) Jimmie Åkerström, before he was asked to leave the band in April 2012. Åkerström was never replaced and thus left Vildhjarta without a third guitarist since his leaving. ''Måsstaden'' was a breakthrough success and led to positive reviews and an expanded international fanbase. The musical style found on the album, often described by fans as "thall", would continue to influence multiple bands and artists within the djent scene. Vildhjarta
Vildhjarta is a Swedish progressive metal band from Hudiksvall, formed in 2005. The band plays in a Meshuggah-influenced musical style employing heavily down-tuned seven-string guitars, as well as harmonic minor chord progressions, jarring staccato riffs, layers of reverberant guitars and dual lead vocalists. The group released a two-track EP entitled ''Omnislash'' in 2009 before they proceeded to sign with Century Media Records in 2011, spawning their debut full-length album '' Måsstaden'' that same year. In 2013, they followed up with a second EP, '' Thousands of Evils'' released on an exclusive 1,000-copy vinyl record run.
