History The club was the product of the 25 July 1950 union of ''Turn- und Sport 1904 Manfort'', established 21 June 1904 as ''Ballspielverein Manfort'', and ''Turn- und Sport Jahn 1914 Küppersteg'', established 15 February 1914. Leverkusen () is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, on the eastern bank of the Rhine. To the south, Leverkusen borders the city of Cologne, and to the north the state capital, Düsseldorf. The Landesliga Mittelrhein is the second highest amateur football league in the region of Middle Rhine which is part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and since 2012 the sixth tier of the German football league system. It operates in two groups which run parallel below the Oberliga Mittelrhein. Until the introduction of the 3. Liga in 2008 it was the sixth tier of the league system; until the introduction of the Regionalligas in 1994 the fifth tier. History The league was founded in 1946 as the ''Rheinbezirksliga'' (Rhine District League), the highest division for the area covered by the Middle Rhine football association. Jens Hegeler (born 22 January 1988) is a German former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Youth and early career Hegeler began his career at SV Westhoven in 1993 and moved after two years to SpVgg Porz. He left Porz after three years when he was scouted by 1. FC Köln in 1998. He played six years in Köln's youth team before he moved to Yurdumspor Köln in the German Oberliga in 2004. After one year he left Cologne and moved to VfL Leverkusen.
