VfB Hermsdorf
VfB Hermsdorf is a German football club from the Hermsdorf district of Berlin. It is part of a larger sports club that has departments for athletics, badminton, basketball, bowling, chess, dance, gymnastics, handball, swimming, table tennis, and tennis. History The side was founded as Hermsdorfer Sport Club on 16 June 1916 in the Restaurant Knoblich. With the onset of World War I the club came close to folding as large number of the club's members were called away to the army. In order to continue to play, many of the remaining footballers joined Berliner FC Favorit 1896. After the conflict the club resumed play in 1919, but abandoned their old name to play as Verein für Bewegungsspiele Hermsdorf 1916 in order to avoid being confused with a similarly named tennis club. Berlin-Liga
The Berlin-Liga (VI), formerly the Verbandsliga Berlin, is the highest league for football teams exclusively in the German capital. Since German reunification in 1990, it has been the highest level of domestic football in the city, replacing the Amateur-Oberliga Berlin in this position. Hermsdorf () is a district (''Ortsteil'') of Berlin located in the borough (''Bezirk'') of Reinickendorf. History First mentioned in 1200, it was an autonomous municipality merged into Berlin in 1920 with the " Greater Berlin Act". During the Cold War, as part of West Berlin bordering East Germany, it was crossed by the Berlin Wall from 1961 to 1989 at its border with the municipality of Glienicke/Nordbahn. The Berliner Landespokal ( en, Berlin Cup) is an annual football cup competition held by the Berlin Football Association (German: Berliner Fußballverband, BFV). The cup winner qualifies for the national DFB-Pokal. Cup finals are usually held in the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark. The competition has been held since 1906, with various interruptions.
