Emirdağ
Emirdağ is a town and district of Afyonkarahisar Province in Turkey, between the city of Afyon and Eskişehir. The district covers an area of 2,009 km2, and the population (2014) is 38,269 of which 19,093 live in the town of Emirdağ itself. The mayor is Cengiz Pala ( AKP). The Emir Mountains rise steeply behind the town. The region is vulnerable to earthquakes. The weather is very cold in winter. Etymology During the Hellenistic era the name of Emirdağ was Amorion ( el, Ἀμόριον, Amórion). After the Arab conquests of Anatolia the city was known as Ammūriye by Arab-Islamic sources. Veysel Eroğlu (born 18 August 1948) is a Member of Parliament for Afyonkarahisar of the ruling Justice and Development Party and a former Minister of Forestry and Water of Turkey. Early life Eroğlu was born on 18 August 1948 in the Şuhut district of Turkey's Afyonkarahisar Province. His father's name was İbrahim and his mother's name was Emine. He completed his primary education at Şuhut Zaferyolu Primary School and Şuhut Middle School. Veysel Turan
Veysel Turan (1901 - 25 March 2007) was one of the last Turkish veterans of the Turkish War of Independence (1919-1923). Military years He joined the newly-established army of Mustafa Kemal Pasha in Ankara. In the early period of the Turkish War of Independence (1919-1923), he carried grain from various places of the country to the soldiers in the west front. Following the Greek Summer Offensive in 1920, he was assigned to a military hospital in Kütahya. He then fought in clashes near Polatlı. He remembers that "they had to bury the fallen in night in order not to demoralize their comrades". After the retreat of the Greek troops, he received a horse, and became a cavalryman in the combat assault battalion of the 1st Division.
