Vetlanda () is a locality and the seat of Vetlanda Municipality, Jönköping County, Sweden with 13,050 inhabitants in 2010. History Vetlanda was still nothing more than a village for several centuries. With the 1840s population boom in Småland, and the industrial revolution winning ground in Sweden, the industry expanded and people settled in the village. With the railways crossing Vetlanda in the late 19th century the population further blossomed, and Vetlanda got the title of a city on New Year's Day 1920, at which time its population amounted to 3,015. The coat of arms was selected as an ear of wheat, a derivation of the arms for the old jurisdiction Östra Härad ( sv), wherein ''Vitala'' was rumoured to have been the centre, that depicted three ears of wheat. The present spelling ''Vetlanda'' did not come into use until the 1920s, before that it was known as ''Hvetlanda'', a form that can be found in several companies and organizations. Vetlanda Municipality
Vetlanda Municipality (''Vetlanda kommun'') is a municipality in Jönköping County, southern Sweden. The town of Vetlanda is the municipality's seat. The municipality was created in 1971 when the ''City of Vetlanda'' (instituted in 1920) was amalgamated with the surrounding rural municipalities to form a unitary municipality. In 1863, when the first local government acts in Sweden came into force, there were more than 20 entities within the area of the present municipality. Vetlanda is the birthplace of Johan Franzén, a professional ice hockey center who played for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. Geography Vetlanda Municipality is the largest municipality in Jönköping County. Vetlanda BK is a bandy club in Vetlanda, Sweden. Vetlanda BK was established in December 1944. While the exact date seems to be unknown, 6 December is usually credited. Johan Franzén
Johan Marcus Gunnar Franzén (; born 23 December 1979) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey winger who played 11 seasons for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). His career ended early in the 2015-16 season due to post-concussion syndrome. He also played for Linköpings HC in the Elitserien (later Swedish Hockey League). Franzén was drafted by the Red Wings in the third round, 97th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and won a Stanley Cup with the team in 2008. Playing career Linköpings HC Franzén began playing ice hockey in Boro/Vetlanda HC, Landsbro near Vetlanda in Sweden. He was suspended for a full year after knocking down a referee, but was then moved to play with the Tranås AIF in the Swedish Allsvenskan in 1999. After one season with the club, he moved to Linköpings HC, where he stayed for five seasons, helping the club win the promotion for play in the Swedish top-level Elitserien in 2001. The 2013 Bandy World Championship was an edition of the top annual event in international bandy, held between January 23 and February 3, 2013, in Norway and Sweden. 14 countries participated in the 2013 championships: Belarus, Finland, Kazakhstan, Norway, Russia, Sweden (group A), Canada, Estonia, Japan, Hungary, Latvia, the Netherlands, Ukraine and the United States (group B). European Cup (bandy)
The European Cup was an annual bandy club competition between teams from Europe. The first edition of the tournament was held in 1974. The most recent competition was in 2009, but it has not been formally discontinued. Clubs qualified for the cup by becoming champions in their own national championship. This meant that only four teams took part – the national championship teams from Finland, Norway, Soviet Union/Russia, and Sweden. The tournament was dominated by teams from Russia (the Soviet Union until 1991), and Sweden. Teams from those countries won every tournament. Mattias Tedenby (born February 21, 1990) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player who is currently playing for HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Playing career Tedenby started his playing career in the Swedish elite league club HV71's youth teams, playing for the under 18 years-team in 2005–06; and both under 18 and under 20 teams in 2006–07 and 2007–08. During the 2007–08 Elitserien season, he was called up HV71's professional team and played in 23 games, scoring six points. During the off-season in 2008, he was contracted for one-year by HV71. After playing in 10 games, including one CHL game, with HV71, Tedenby was loaned to IK Oskarshamn in the second tier league, HockeyAllsvenskan. The Bandy World Championship is a competition between bandy-playing nations' men's teams. The tournament is administrated by the Federation of International Bandy. It is distinct from the Bandy World Cup, a club competition, and from the Women's Bandy World Championship. A Youth Bandy World Championship also exists separately from the senior competition and has competitions in both the male and female categories.
