Vesterbro, Aarhus
Vesterbro is a neighbourhood of Aarhus, Denmark. It is located in the Aarhus C district, west of the city centre of ''Indre By''. Vesterbro used to be farmland outside the city walls, and the neighbourhood's development progressed, when the city walls of Aarhus were demolished in 1851. Description The neighbourhood of Vesterbro is part of Midtbyen and comprise the area between the university, Indre By, the broad railway yard bordering Frederiksbjerg, Aabyhøj and Aarhus V. The oldest part of Vesterbro is located close to Indre By. Places of interest includes the Aarhus Botanical Gardens, the open-air museum of Den Gamle By (one of Denmark's most popular attractions), the hospital of Amtssygehuset and the culture centre of Godsbanen. The main square of Vesterbro Torv used to be a market square for the trading of livestock such as pigs in the 1880s. Now it is probably the busiest junction on Vesterbro. Ceres Brewery
The Ceres Brewery was a beer and soft drink producing facility in Århus, Denmark, that operated from 1856 until 2008. Although the brewery was closed by its owner Royal Unibrew the Ceres brand continues, with the product brewed at other facilities. CeresByen (English: ''CeresCity'') is a neighbourhood in Midtbyen, a district of the city of Aarhus, Denmark. It is a mixed residential and commercial area, comprising the site of the former Ceres Brewery operating here from 1856 until November 2008. The outer edges of CeresByen are defined by the streets ''Thorvaldsensgade'', ''Silkeborgvej'', ''Dollerupvej'' and ''Ceres Allé''. The neighbourhood is characterized by densely situated apartment buildings, high-rises, and an open public park along the Aarhus River. Architecturally, the area is modern while taking into account a few remaining and listed historic 19th century buildings of the former Ceres Brewery. Godsbanen
Godsbanen is a cultural centre in central Aarhus, Denmark since 2012. The site and most of the buildings are a former goods station, known as "''Aarhus Godsbanegård''" (Aarhus Goods Station), which was in use from 1923 to 2000. It is located at the end of a broad sidetrack to the central railway yard of Aarhus. In December 2010, Realdania announced that the area would be gradually transformed into a modern city district, through a collaborative project with Aarhus Municipality. Apart from the new cultural centre of Godsbanen, there are plans to build several buildings and institutions along the former railway yard, including a new school of architecture. Den Gamle By
Den Gamle By, or The Old Town in English, is an open-air town museum located in the Aarhus Botanical Gardens, in central Aarhus, Denmark. In 1914, the museum opened as the world's first open-air museum of its kind, concentrating on town culture rather than village culture, and to this day it remains one of just a few top rated Danish museums outside Copenhagen, serving more than 400,000 visitors pr. year. Today the museum consists of 75 historical buildings collected from 20 townships in all parts of the country. The town itself is the main attraction but most buildings are open for visitors; rooms are either decorated in the original historical style or organized into larger exhibits of which there are 5 regular with varying themes. Aarhus Botanical Gardens
Aarhus Botanical Gardens is a botanical garden in Aarhus, Denmark. It is located north of the Old Town open-air village museum and was founded in 1875. Nowadays it covers an area of , with for the Old Town. The park was originally created primarily as a botanical and academic study-ground in relation to Aarhus University and provides an attraction of interest to those who wish to inspect the thousands of plant species on display here. All are labelled in both Latin and Danish. The landscape is quite varied and includes a large greenhouse center; originally from 1970 by C. F. Møller Architects, but with a newly added tropical hothouse. The gardens have an open-air amphitheatre, two small ponds, a children's playground and the large lawns are popular with picnics, gatherings and events of all kinds year round. Aarhus Vest (lit.: Aarhus West) or Aarhus V, is a postal district in the city of Aarhus, consisting of Hasle, Herredsvang, Møllevangen and Frydenlund. Aabyhøj , or Åbyhøj, is a neighborhood of Aarhus, Denmark. It is part of the postal district of Aarhus V and has a population of approximately 11,000 people and is home to Aabyhøj IF football club and Aabyhøj Basketball. Frederiksbjerg
Frederiksbjerg is a borough in Aarhus, Denmark. Frederiksbjerg is part of the postal district Aarhus C and is located just south of the historical city centre, separated from it by a broad railway yard and connected by three bridges. Despite being part of the inner city, Frederiksbjerg has its own charm and character and express some of the first large scale attempts to plan the development of Aarhus as a city. Midtbyen, Aarhus
Midtbyen (lit. "The Mid-town"), also known as Aarhus Center or City, is the inner part of Aarhus. Midtbyen is part of district Aarhus C, with postal code 8000, together with Vesterbro, Nørre Stenbro and Frederiksbjerg and it has a population of 55,000. Midtbyen is characterized by narrow, winding, cobbled streets and a busy street life, with many small squares, cafés and shops.
