Norwegian Language
Norwegian ( no, norsk, links=no ) is a North Germanic language spoken mainly in Norway, where it is an official language. Along with Swedish and Danish, Norwegian forms a dialect continuum of more or less mutually intelligible local and regional varieties; some Norwegian and Swedish dialects, in particular, are very close. These Scandinavian languages, together with Faroese and Icelandic as well as some extinct languages, constitute the North Germanic languages. Kviteseid
Kviteseid is a Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Telemark in the Counties of Norway, county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the Districts of Norway, traditional region of Upper Telemark and Vest-Telemark. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Kviteseid. The parish of ''Hvideseid'' was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Kviteseid Seminar was the first public school which started in 1819 and was in operation until 1889. Kviteseid Library (''Kviteseid Folkebibliotek'') was founded in 1895. The library was first based on a book collection from Kviteseid Seminar. The main industries of the municipality are forestry, agriculture, tourism, and hydroelectricity, hydroelectric power. The Telemark Canal goes through Kviteseid. There are also several ski resorts in Kviteseid. Vrådal is one of them. Vest-Telemark
The Vest-Telemark traditional district of Norway comprises the upper and western areas of the larger region of Upper Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark. The region consists of six municipalities: Fyresdal, Tokke, Vinje, Nissedal, Kviteseid and Seljord. Vest-Telemark belongs to the traditional region Upper Telemark. The region is known for its folk traditions within music, clothing, handcrafts, food and architecture. The region is also distinctly marked by its dialects of Norwegian. This form of Norwegian is among those containing the most traces of Old Norse language and grammar. Vest-Telemark had 14,252 inhabitants on 1 April 2009. The area is 7 700 km². Vest-Telemark is also the home of slalom (slalåm), Telemark skiing and ski jumping (with its characteristic Telemark landing). "The Cradle of Modern Skiing" is found in Morgedal. The ''Great Norwegian Encyclopedia'' ( no, Store Norske Leksikon, abbreviated ''SNL''), is a Norwegian-language online encyclopedia. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with more than two million unique visitors per month. Paper editions 1978–2007 The ''SNL'' was created in 1978, when the two publishing houses Aschehoug and Gyldendal merged their encyclopedias and created the company Kunnskapsforlaget. Norsk Presses Historie 1660–2010
''Norsk presses historie 1660–2010'' is a four-volume work about the press media history of Norway. It was published in April 2010 by Universitetsforlaget, and was the first book of its kind in Norway. Structure and production Hans Fredrik Dahl was the superior editor of all four volumes. The first volume, ''En samfunnsmakt blir til. 1660–1880'' was edited by Martin Eide. The second volume, ''Presse, parti og publikum. 1880–1945'' was edited by Rune Ottosen. The third volume, ''Imperiet vakler. 1945–2010'' was edited by Guri Hjeltnes. The fourth volume, ''Norske aviser fra A til Å'' was edited by Idar Flo. While the first three volumes are written in regular prose, the fourth volume is more of an encyclopedia with about 400 "newspaper biographies". Composed of 1925 pages across all volumes, the entire work cost and was finished after eleven years. Mass is an intrinsic property of a body. It was traditionally believed to be related to the quantity of matter in a physical body, until the discovery of the atom and particle physics. It was found that different atoms and different elementary particles, theoretically with the same amount of matter, have nonetheless different masses.
