Veselin Metodiev
Veselin Metodiev Petrov ( bg, Веселин Методиев Петров) (born 3 November 1957, in Silistra) is a Bulgarian politician, member of Parliament & deputy chairman of Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria. He was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education from 1997 until 1999 under Prime Minister Ivan Kostov. Veselin Metodiev graduated in history from Sofia University in 1979 and after graduation worked in the Bulgarian General department of archives until 1993, in which he rose to head in 1992. He taught history in New Bulgarian University, of which he was also vice-rector in 1994. He was vice-chairman of the Democratic Party (Bulgaria) from 1995 till 2001 and Member of Parliament in the 37th and 38th National Assemblies. Nedelcho Krumov Beronov ( bg, Неделчо Крумов Беронов) (22 July 1928 – 4 July 2015) was a Bulgarian jurist, right-wing politician and Constitutional Court chairman, as well as a presidential candidate in the 2006 presidential elections. Born in Nova Zagora, Beronov graduated from the Sofia University Faculty of Law in 1951 and from the University of National and World Economy in 1972. He worked as an arbiter and head arbiter at the Stara Zagora State Court of Arbitration between 1954 and 1991, as well as an arbiter at the Bulgarian Commercial and Industrial Chamber Court of Arbitration between 1977 and 1997. 2009 Bulgarian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Bulgaria on 5 July 2009. With 40% of the vote, the decisive winner of the elections was the established in 2006 personalistic party of Boyko Borisov, GERB. The Socialist Party, in power before the election, was in second place, with around 18%. Оnce-ruling National Movement Simeon II did not cross the 4% threshold and won no seats. The turnout was 60.6%, one of the lowest ever. Following the election, GERB leader Boyko Borisov became Prime Minister. Just like all the previous parliamentary elections since the fall of communism, the government was not re-elected. 2006 Presidential Elections
Presidential elections were held in Bulgaria on 22 October 2006, as decided on 27 July 2006 by the Bulgarian Parliament. The runoff took place on 29 October 2006, while the electoral campaign spanned 19 September – 20 October. At the election, Georgi Parvanov won his second and final term as President of Bulgaria. Some of the right-wing parties were disunited at the time but still chose to support a common candidate, Nedelcho Beronov. Prime minister and head of the Socialist Party Sergey Stanishev expressed his strong support for the current president, Georgi Parvanov, in July 2006, and Parvanov officially stated his desire to run for a second term on 25 August 2006. Silistra
Silistra ( bg, Силистра ; tr, Silistre; ro, Silistra) is a town in Northeastern Bulgaria. The town lies on the southern bank of the lower Danube river, and is also the part of the Romanian border where it stops following the Danube.
