Reuben (band)
Reuben were an English three-piece musical group from Camberley, Surrey. Their music is a fusion of alternative rock and heavy metal, as their songs cover a variety of styles, ranging from heavy and upbeat, such as their 2005 single " Blamethrower" to slower, more melodic songs such as their 2004 single " Moving to Blackwater". The former style of song often featured vocalist Jamie Lenman switching between shouting and whispering, a technique often used in heavy metal and post-hardcore music. The band performed in the UK underground music scene. Although they attracted a significant fanbase, Reuben never achieved mainstream success, but did chart four songs in the UK Singles Chart. Their highest charting single was 2004's " Freddy Kreuger", that reached UK No. 53. In June 2008, Reuben entered a state of indefinite hiatus. Xtra Mile Recordings are a British independent record label based in London, England. The label was founded in 2003 by Charlie Caplowe and they release an eclectic mix of genres with a focus on rock and folk. History The label first signed the artists Million Dead and Reuben in 2003 and subsequently released Frank Turner's solo albums after the split of Million Dead in 2005. While signed with Xtra Mile, Frank Turner has gone on to perform at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics and sell out Wembley Arena. On 8 August 2011 Xtra Mile were badly affected by the 2011 England riots, when the Sony Music warehouse that stored their records was set on fire. Chris Sheldon
Chris Sheldon (born 25 September 1962) is an English record producer, particularly of rock music based in London, England. He has produced or mixed records for the Foo Fighters, Garbage, Big Country, Feeder, Therapy?, Biffy Clyro, Oceansize, Pixies and Shed 7. He lives in London, is married and has two daughters. Career Sheldon was born in Pakistan when his parents were posted abroad for work and grew up in Surrey. He took his first steps in the music industry when he was a drummer in several local punk bands. In the mid-1980s he worked as engineer in productions of artists such as Dead or Alive, Prefab Sprout, Elkie Brooks and Roger Waters. ''Racecar Is Racecar Backwards'' is the debut full-length album by the British rock band Reuben. It was recorded between July and November 2003, and was produced by Jason Wilson at Stakeout Studios when it was based in Chobham. The album's third single, "Freddy Krueger", placed 53rd on the UK Singles Charts and is the band's most recognized song. Music and lyrics The music on "Racecar is Racecar Backwards" has been described as taking influence from a wide array of genres including nu-metal, math rock, grunge, emo and pop rock. The main riff of the song "Song for Saturday" was made up on the spot by Jamie when the band's manager asked to hear their new song in soundcheck. In Nothing We Trust
''In Nothing We Trust'' is Reuben's third studio album, released on 25 June 2007. It was mastered in February 2007 by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Engerica, Helmet) in New York. The album was recorded, produced and mixed at Livingstone Studios in London and Soul Valley Studios in Wimbledon by Sean Genockey (Engerica, Smother) with additional engineering by Ed Woods (credited as Edrin Piece). The band uploaded short videos on YouTube for each day in the recording studio. These videos are on the band's DVD, ''What Happens in Aldershot Stays in Aldershot'', and can also be seen on YouTube. Background The album was the first to be released on Reuben's self-run label, Hideous Records. On 29 March 2007, the band revealed the first single from the album will be titled, " Blood, Bunny, Larkhall", due for release a week prior to the album. "A Kick in the Mouth" is the eighth single by Surrey-based rock band Reuben, released in June 2005. It is the second single taken from their second album, ''Very Fast Very Dangerous'' (although the first, Blamethrower, was a download-only single). It was made available in both CD and vinyl format, with a different single b-side on each format. It was received well in the music press, even earning the band a thumbs up from '' The Sun'' Newspaper, who called it 'seriously loud', as well as a 9/10 rating from the July 2005 issue of Rock Sound Magazine. The song demonstrated the simpler approach to rock and roll that features on the second album, leaving out the many twists and turns and time-changes that featured in the first album.
