Vernon Derrick
Vernon Derrick (November 7, 1933 – January 4, 2008) was an American musician and entertainer. Derrick may best be remembered as a fiddle and mandolin player of Hank Williams Jr.'s Bama Band in the 1980s. Personal life Derrick was born in Grant, Alabama, in 1933 and was a resident of Arab, Alabama, since 1941. Derrick began his professional career in music as a teenager, playing a short stint with Flatt and Scruggs, and then enlisted in the United States Army. After a long career, Derrick died from heart and kidney failure at Marshall Medical Center North, Marshall County, Alabama on January 4, 2008, and was interred at Mount Oak Cemetery, near Arab, Alabama. Musical career Derrick recorded and toured with the Stanley Brothers and played both fiddle and mandolin on the original sessions of such Hank Williams, Jr. hits as "All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down" and "A Country Boy Can Survive". Hank Williams Jr
Randall Hank Williams (born May 26, 1949), known professionally as Hank Williams Jr. or Bocephus, is an American singer-songwriter and musician. His musical style is often considered a blend of southern rock, blues, and country. He is the son of country musician Hank Williams and the father of musicians Holly Williams and Hank Williams III. Williams began his career following in his famed father's footsteps, covering his father's songs and imitating his father's style. Williams' first television appearance was in a 1964 episode of ABC's ''The Jimmy Dean Show'', in which at age fourteen he sang several songs associated with his father. Later that year, he was a guest star on ''Shindig!'' Williams' style evolved slowly as he struggled to find his own voice and place within country music. The Damn Band
The Damn Band is the backing band of Hank Williams III. It was formed in 1995, and the band is on most of Williams's country records. The band has had many changes in the line-ups. It consists of acoustic guitar (played by Williams), steel guitar, fiddle, bass, drums, electric guitar and banjo. History Hank Williams III is the grandson of Hank Williams and son of Hank Williams Jr. Williams began his musical career in the early 1990s, playing with obscure Punk bands until a judge ordered him in 1995 to "find a real job" and ruled that he owed thousands of dollars in backed child support. Williams decided that he would pursue a career in Country music and signed with Curb Records. Jimmy Martin
James Henry Martin (August 10, 1927 – May 14, 2005) was an American bluegrass musician, known as the "King of Bluegrass". Early years Martin was born in Sneedville, Tennessee, United States, and was raised in the hard farming life of rural East Tennessee. He grew up near Sneedville, singing in church and with friends from surrounding farms. His mother and stepfather who used to sing gospel were his first influences. When he was in his teens he played guitar in a local string band and later appeared on radio with Tex Climer and the Blue Band Coffee Boys. Music career In the winter of 1949, Mac Wiseman had just left Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys. Martin, who wanted to apply for the vacant post as guitarist, rode the bus into Nashville. He snuck in backstage at the Grand Ole Opry. While picking his guitar, he was overheard by the Blue Grass Boys' banjo player Rudy Lyle, who brought him forward and presented him to Monroe. The Bama Band
The Bama Band is an American country music group composed of Lamar Morris (vocals, guitar), Wayne "Animal" Turner (guitar), Clifford E. "Cowboy" Eddie Long (steel guitar), Jerry McKinney (saxophone), Vernon Derrick (fiddle), Ray Barrickman (bass), Billy Earheart (keyboards) and William Claude Marshall (drums). For more than twenty years, the Bama Band was the backing band for Hank Williams, Jr. The Bama Band was nominated twice for Band of the Year by the Academy of Country Music. They also found success on the ''Billboard'' Hot Country Singles chart in the 1980s with singles like "Dallas," "Tijuana Sunrise" and "What Used to Be Crazy."
