Vermont Green Football Club is an American soccer team based in Burlington, Vermont that began play in USL League Two in the 2022 season. The club mission is centered on environmental justice with the goal of becoming a net zero soccer club. They are also a member of One Percent for the Planet, donating 1% of the club's annual revenues to approved environmental partners. History Prior to the Green, the Burlington, Vermont area was home to USL League Two club, Vermont Voltage, which played from 1997 until 2014. The club was officially announced as USL League Two's newest team on 12 October 2021. One of the club's co-founders is Matthew Wolff, a graphic designer known for his work on association football logos and jerseys. Wolff designed Vermont Green FC's logo, which was unveiled in February 2022. The club played its first match on May 16, 2022, defeating Boston City FC 4–0. Virtue Field
Virtue Field is an on-campus stadium at the University of Vermont. It is home to the Vermont men's and women's lacrosse teams, as well as the men's and women's soccer teams. It will also be the home field for USL League Two expansion side Vermont Green FC, beginning in 2022. The field is made of artificial turf. History In 2015, lights were added for night competition. Phase II of the Virtue Field project took place in the summer of 2016 with permanent seating for 2,600 spectators, a press box, and storage space were added. Boston City FC
Boston City FC is a men's soccer club based in Boston, Massachusetts that competes in the Northeast Division of USL League Two. The club was founded in 2015; their inaugural season was 2016. The club's colors are red, navy, and white, and plays its home matches at Brother Gilbert Stadium. History Boston City FC was founded in 2015 by Renato Valentim and Jorge Ferreira da Silva (Palhinha). In their inaugural season (2016), the club placed second in NPSL's 9-team Northeast Atlantic Conference. Reuben Ayarna
Reuben Ayarna (born 22 October 1985, in Accra) is a Ghanaian footballer who is currently a player-coach for Vermont Green FC. Before Vermont Green FC, he played defensive midfielder for Kuopion Palloseura. Ayarna began his football career at the age of 12 years at Desisderoes Babies and later playing for Liberty Babies. He attended Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School where he also played in the school's football team. Ayarna played most of his career in the Scandinavian region, playing for GAIS, BK Häcken in Sweden and Ilves, SJK and KuPS in Finland. In 2019, Ayarna won his first career league title with KuPS, helping them win the title after a 43-year wait. Matthew Wolff (designer)
Matthew Wolff is an American graphic designer known for his work designing sports logos and jerseys, particularly for association football teams. He is also a co-founder of Vermont Green FC, an amateur soccer team in Burlington, Vermont. Biography Wolff was born in 1990 in New York City but raised in Minneapolis and London. He attended St. Paul Academy and Summit School in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He then matriculated to Skidmore College, where he played as a forward on the school's NCAA Division III soccer team. He graduated from Skidmore in 2012 with a degree in management and business. He then went on to study graphic design at Parsons School of Design. Vermont Voltage was an American soccer team based in St. Albans, Vermont, United States. Founded in 1997, the team played in the USL Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference, having spent the 2009 season on hiatus. One Percent for the Planet is an international organization whose members contribute at least one percent of their annual revenue to environmental causes to protect the environment. The aim is to offer accountability, prevent greenwashing and "certify reputable giving".
