Verizon Wireless Music Center (Birmingham)
Oak Mountain Amphitheatre, formerly known as the Verizon Wireless Music Center, is an outdoor amphitheater, owned by Live Nation, located in Pelham, Alabama, USA, a few miles south of Birmingham. It is the largest outdoor music venue in Alabama. It is unusual in that it features three tiers of reserved seating, with no general admission seating area. John Mayer performed and recorded his show here, on September 12, 2002, which was later released as a CD/DVD, titled '' Any Given Thursday''. Pelham is a city in Shelby County, Alabama, United States. It incorporated in July 1964 and is a suburb located in the Birmingham metropolitan area, Alabama which was home to over 1.1 million residents as of the 2020 census. At the 2000 census the population was 14,369, and has grown to 24,318 by the 2020 census, nearly doubling. It was named for Confederate Civil War officer John Pelham. Oak Mountain State Park, Alabama's largest state park, is located in Pelham. John Mayer
John Clayton Mayer ( ; born October 16, 1977) is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Born and raised in Fairfield County, Connecticut, Mayer attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, but left and moved to Atlanta in 1997 with Clay Cook. ''Any Given Thursday'' is a live CD/DVD by John Mayer, recorded in Birmingham, Alabama at the Oak Mountain Amphitheater on September 12, 2002, during the ''Room for Squares'' tour. The album quickly peaked at #17 on the Billboard 200 chart. It features mostly songs from ''Room for Squares'', as well as several covers, including " Lenny" by Stevie Ray Vaughan and "Message in a Bottle" by The Police. Covers have since become a regular feature in Mayer's live shows. Production and content Though mostly featuring songs from ''Room For Squares'', the album also features "Man On The Side" (co-written with Cook and appeared on the Lo-Fi Master's Demo) and "Covered in Rain", neither of which have ever been released on a studio recording by John Mayer. "Covered in Rain", according to a documentary included in the DVD release, is "part two" of the song "City Love", which features the line, "covered in rain." An amphitheatre (British English) or amphitheater (American English; both ) is an open-air venue used for entertainment, performances, and sports.
