Verein Für Deutsche Kulturbeziehungen Im Ausland
The Verein für Deutsche Kulturbeziehungen im Ausland (; "Association for German cultural relations abroad"), abbreviated VDA, is a German cultural organisation. During the Nazi era it was engaged in spying across the whole world, using German minorities living in other countries. Its other goals included preservation of German culture among "racial Germans". On the 13 May 1880, in Vienna, the ''Deutscher Schulverein'' (DSV/German School Association) was formed. In 1881, the ''Allgemeine Deutsche Schulverein zur Erhaltung des Deutschtums im Auslande'' (General German School Association for the Conservation of Germanness Abroad), was formed in Berlin by Hamburg lawyer Julius Scharlach. It was modeled on the Viennese DSV. The associations in Vienna and Berlin initially worked closely together. There are donation cards with the imprint of DSV-Berlin and Vienna in existence. Karl Ernst Haushofer (27 August 1869 – 10 March 1946) was a German general, professor, geographer, and politician. Through his student Rudolf Hess, Haushofer's conception of Geopolitik influenced the development of Adolf Hitler's expansionist strategies. He coined the political use of the term ''Lebensraum'', which Hitler adopted in ''Mein Kampf'' and used to motivate global Nazi expansionism and genocide. Heinrich Gotthard Freiherr von Treitschke (; 15 September 1834 – 28 April 1896) was a German historian, political writer and National Liberal member of the Reichstag during the time of the German Empire. Rolf Rodenstock (1 July 1917 – 6 February 1997) was a German industrialist who was born and died in Munich. Rodenstock studied marketing and management graduating in 1944 with a degree as a Diplom-Kaufmann. In 1947 he became private lecturer. From 1956 to the beginning of the 1980s he was a professor for operational organization, industrial account systems, and technical-economical rationalization at the Technical University of Munich.
