Vere Monckton-Arundell, Viscountess Galway
Vere Monckton-Arundell, Viscountess Galway (née Gosling; 1859 - 3 January 1921) was a British poet, writer, philanthropist, and woman of letters. In 1910, she co-founded an auxiliary hospital at her home, Serlby Hall, with her husband. She was invested as a Lady of Justice of The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem. Biography Lady Galway was born Vere Gosling in 1859 in Godalming, Surrey, the only daughter of Emma Susan Duncombe and Ellis Gosling of Busbridge Hall. On 24 July 1879, she married George Edward Milnes Monckton-Arundell, 7th Viscount Galway. She and her husband founded a military hospital at their home, Serlby Hall, in 1910. The hospital functioned as an auxiliary hospital under Surgeon General Ford of York during World War I. The hospital was run and expenses covered by Lord and Lady Galway. Viscount Galway
Viscount Galway is a title that has been created once in the Peerage of England and thrice in the Peerage of Ireland. The first creation came in the Peerage of England in 1628 in favour of Richard Burke, 4th Earl of Clanricarde. He was made Earl of St Albans at the same time (see the Earl of Clanricarde for more information on this creation). The second creation came in the Peerage of Ireland in 1687 in favour of Ulick Bourke. He was made Baron Tyaquin at the same time, also in the Peerage of Ireland. However, both titles became extinct on his early death in 1691. The third creation came in the Peerage of Ireland in 1692 in favour of the French soldier and diplomat Henry de Massue, Marquis de Ruvigny, who was created Baron Portarlington, also in the Peerage of Ireland, at the same time. Sir Donald Mackenzie Wallace (11 November 1841 – 10 January 1919) was a Scottish public servant, writer, editor and foreign correspondent of ''The Times'' (London). Early life Donald Mackenzie Wallace was born to Robert Wallace of Boghead, Dunbartonshire, and Sarah Mackenzie. Both his parents died before Donald turned ten. By the age of fifteen, Wallace immersed himself in his studies. Major General Aldred Frederick George Beresford Lumley, 10th Earl of Scarbrough (16 November 1857 – 4 March 1945), styled Viscount Lumley from 1868 to 1884, was an Anglo-Irish peer, soldier and landowner. He was noted for his long service in both the Territorial Army and politics, which included 60 years in the House of Lords, and for his contributions to the growth of the seaside resort of Skegness, Lincolnshire. Early life Lumley was born at Tickhill Castle in the West Riding of Yorkshire, the second son of Richard Lumley, 9th Earl of Scarbrough and Frederica Drummond, granddaughter of the fifth Duke of Rutland. World War I

Edward Hughes (artist)
Edward Hughes (14 September 1832 – 14 May 1908) was a British artist who specialised in portrait painting. Career Edward Hughes was born in Pentonville, London, the son of the artist George Hughes. From an early age his artistic ability was recognised. In 1846 he entered the Royal Academy schools and a year later was awarded a silver medal by the Royal Society of Arts for a chalk drawing. Between 1847 and 1884 Hughes exhibited 36 paintings at the Royal Academy. He also worked as an illustrator, collaborating with George du Maurier in producing the images for the Wilkie Collins book '' Poor Miss Finch''. About 1878 he moved more or less exclusively into portrait painting, drawing praise from John Everett Millais for his representation of women.
