Verdal IL
Verdal Idrettslag is a Norwegian sports club from Verdalsøra, Nord-Trøndelag. It has sections for association football, team handball, weightlifting and speed skating. It was established on 21 May 1920 as a merger between ''Værdalens SL'', founded 12 December 1916, and ''FK Falken''. The club counts 1916 as its founding year. In 1984 the track and field section formed its own club ''Verdal FIK''. Football The men's football team currently plays in the Third Division, the fourth tier of Norwegian football. It contested a playoff to win promotion to the First Division in 1996, but failed. It last played in the Second Division in 2002. It then won its Third Division group and contested playoffs to the Second Division in 2006 and 2007, but failed both times. Verdalsøra
Verdalsøra is a town in the municipality of Verdal in Trøndelag county, Norway. The town is the administrative center of the municipality. It is located along the Trondheimsfjord at the mouth of the river Verdalselva. The village of Vinne lies to the southeast, Trones lies about to the north, the villages of Forbregd/Lein lie about to the northeast (along the lake Leksdalsvatnet), and the village of Stiklestad lies about to the east. In 1998, the municipal council of Verdal voted to grant the urban area of Verdalsøra town status under the laws of Norway. European route E6 and the Nordland Line run north and south through the town, with one railway stop in the town: Verdal Station. Aker Verdal has a large shipyard in Verdal. Tippeligaen
Eliteserien () is a Norwegian professional league for association football clubs. At the top of the Norwegian football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Norwegian First Division. The Norwegian Football Cup ( no, Norgesmesterskapet i fotball for herrer) is the main knockout cup competition in Norwegian football. It is run by the Football Association of Norway and has been contested since 1902, making it the oldest football tournament in the country. Verdal is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is part of the Innherad region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Verdalsøra. Some villages in the municipality include Forbregd/Lein, Lysthaugen, Stiklestad, Trones, Vera, Vinne, and Vuku. The municipality is the 53rd largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Verdal is the 81st most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 14,955.
