2018 Commonwealth Games
The 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games and also known as Gold Coast 2018, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that were held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, between 4 and 15 April 2018. It was the fifth time Australia had hosted the Commonwealth Games and the first time a major multi-sport had an equal number of events for male and female athletes. 4,426 athletes including 300 para-athletes from 71 Commonwealth Games Associations took part in the event. The Gambia, which withdrew its membership from the Commonwealth of Nations and Commonwealth Games Federation in 2013, was readmitted on 31 March 2018 and participated in the event. With 275 sets of medals, the games featured 18 Commonwealth sports, including beach volleyball, para triathlon and women's rugby sevens. The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) is located on the Gold Coast Highway in Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia. Village Roadshow Studios are a set of film studios located in Oxenford, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. The Gold Coast Aquatic Centre (also known as the Optus Aquatic Centre for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games) is a public swimming pool complex located in the Southport Broadwater Parklands on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Coomera Indoor Sports Centre
Coomera Indoor Sports Centre is an Australian entertainment and sporting arena which was built on the Gold Coast, Queensland. History and construction On 12 November 2011, it was announced that the Gold Coast would host the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Gold Coast bid included an indoor facility in Coomera that would hold a capacity of 2500 people and would host the Wrestling event. The bid also included the creation of the 7500-seat arena to be built in Southport. On 13 June 2014, the 2018 Commonwealth Games masterplan was finalised and the release revealed a new 7500-seat indoor arena to be built in Coomera. The arena will measure 10,000 square-metres and construction will be complete in 2016. The venue will be used for Volleyball in the 2032 Summer Olympics and Wheelchair Rugby for the 2032 Summer Paralympics. Cycling At The 2018 Commonwealth Games
Cycling at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was held at the Currumbin Beachfront (road), Nerang National Park (mountain biking), both of which are located in the Gold Coast and Anna Meares Velodrome (track, located in Brisbane) from 5 to 14 April. A total of 26 events were held: 4 in road cycling, 2 in mountain biking and 20 in track cycling (including four events in para-track cycling). The 26 events were evenly split between men and women. This was done after the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) added more women's events in October 2016, to make the games a gender-equal games in terms of overall medal events.
