Ventura Film Festival
The Ventura Film Festival is an international film festival held each year in Ventura, California. The Ventura Film Festival features Academy Award-winning films and has been attended by Academy Award-winning celebrities. In 2011 the Ventura Film Festival hosted the 50th Anniversary of ''West Side Story'' and the full cast of the film and gave a lifetime achievement awards to Academy Award winner/Golden Globe winner George Chakiris who starred in the film as Bernardo and Academy Award nominee/Golden Globe winner Russ Tamblyn who played the co-starring role of Riff in ''West Side Story''. Ventura, California
Ventura, officially named San Buenaventura (Spanish for "Saint Bonaventure"), is a city on the Southern Coast of California and the county seat of Ventura County. The population was 110,763 at the 2020 census. Ventura is a popular tourist destination, owing to its historic landmarks, beaches, and resorts. Ventura was founded by the Spanish in 1782, when Saint Junípero Serra established Mission San Buenaventura. Academy Award
The Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars, are awards for artistic and technical merit for the American and international film industry. West Side Story (1961 Film)
''West Side Story'' is a 1961 American musical romantic drama film directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins. With a screenplay by Ernest Lehman, the film is an adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical of the same title, which in turn was inspired by Shakespeare's play ''Romeo and Juliet''. It stars Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn, Rita Moreno, and George Chakiris, and was photographed by Daniel L. Fapp in Super Panavision 70. The music was composed by Leonard Bernstein, with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Released on October 18, 1961, through United Artists, the film received praise from critics and viewers, and became the highest-grossing film of 1961. George Chakiris
George Chakiris (born September 16, 1932) is an American actor. He is best known for his appearance in the 1961 film version of ''West Side Story'' as Bernardo Nunez, the leader of the Sharks gang, for which he won both the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture. Russ Tamblyn
Russell Irving Tamblyn, also known as Rusty Tamblyn (born December 30, 1934) is an American film and television actor and dancer. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Tamblyn trained as a gymnast in his youth. He began his career as a child actor for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Tamblyn appeared in the musical ''Seven Brides for Seven Brothers'' (1954). He subsequently portrayed Norman Page in the drama '' Peyton Place'' (1957), for which he earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. In ''West Side Story'' (1961), he portrayed Riff, the leader of the Jets gang. Throughout the 1970s, Tamblyn appeared in several exploitation films and worked as a choreographer in the 1980s. Grauman's Chinese Theatre (branded as TCL Chinese Theatre for naming rights reasons) is a movie palace on the historic Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6925 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, United States. The original Chinese Theatre was commissioned following the success of the nearby Grauman's Egyptian Theatre, which opened in 1922. Both are in Exotic Revival style architecture. Hollywood Boulevard is a major east–west street in Los Angeles, California. It begins in the east at Sunset Boulevard in the Los Feliz district and proceeds to the west as a major thoroughfare through Little Armenia and Thai Town, Hollywood.
