Venray or Venraij (; li, Venroj) is a municipality and a city in Limburg, the Netherlands. The municipality of Venray consists of 14 towns over an area of , with 43,494 inhabitants as of July 2016. About 30,000 of those inhabitants live in the city of Venray; the other 13,000 live in one of the 13 surrounding towns. Ysselsteyn
Ysselsteyn is a village in the municipality of Venray in Limburg, Netherlands. It was established in 1921 and named after its designer, Hendrik Albert van IJsselsteyn, then Minister of Agriculture. Ysselsteyn has an extensive hog raising industry. The Catholic St Oda Church is a square aisleless church with ridge turret. In 1944, it was damaged by war and rebuilt in 1947. In 1975, a carillon was built next to the church. Wanssum
Wanssum is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is located in the municipality of Venray. History The village was first mentioned in 1242 as Wanzem, and means "settlement of Wando or Wanso (person)". Wanssum developed at the confluence of the Grote Molenbeek with the maas. In 1485, it became an independent parish. In 1648, it became part of Spanish Guelders. In 1713, it was part of Prussia, and in 1815, it became part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The St Michaels Church is a three aisled church built between 1950 and 1951 to replace the church which was destroyed in 1944. Wanssum was home to 460 people in 1840. Most of the village was destroyed by war in 1944, and later rebuilt. Wanssum was a separate municipality until 1969, when it merged with Meerlo. Vredepeel
Vredepeel is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg, in the municipality of Venray, with a population of 230. It is home to the Royal Netherlands Army's Joint Ground-based Air Defense Command. The village was first mentioned in 1712 as "in de Vreeij", and refers to the peace pole. Eastrum is a village in Noardeast-Fryslân in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 188 in January 2017. Before 2019, the village was part of the Dongeradeel municipality. History The village was first mentioned in 1449 as Aesterma, and means "eastern settlement". Eastrum is a '' terp'' (artificial living mound) village from the middle ages. The ''terp'' is tall, but a large part has been excavated around 1900. The Dutch Reformed church dates from the 16th century, but has a 13th century tower. Mellema State was a castle-like ''stins'' which probably dated from the 14th century.
