Venero Armanno
Venero Armanno is an Australian novelist. He was born in Brisbane of Sicilian parents. He received a BA from the University of Queensland, and later an MA and PhD in Creative Writing from the Queensland University of Technology. Armanno completed ten unpublished manuscripts over fourteen years before being accepted for publication. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the School of Communication & Arts at the University of Queensland, where he received the 2004 award for excellence in teaching. ''The Australian''/Vogel Literary Award is an Australian literary award for unpublished manuscripts by writers under the age of 35. The prize money, currently A$20,000, is the richest and most prestigious award for an unpublished manuscript in Australia. The rules of the competition include that the winner's work be published by Allen & Unwin.Goodwin (1986) p. 270 The award was initiated in 1979 by Niels Stevns and is a collaboration between ''The Australian'' newspaper, the publisher Allen & Unwin, and Stevns & Company Pty Ltd.
