Gabriel François Venel
Gabriel François Venel (23 August 1723, Tourbes – 29 October 1775, Pézenas) was a French chemist, physician and a contributor to the ''Encyclopédie'', (673 items; In 1742 he obtained his doctorate in medicine from the University of Montpellier. He also attended the public courses in chemistry given by Rouelle in Paris, which confirmed his main interest in chemistry. Venel later on talked very highly of his professor, including in his famous article Chymie written for the Encyclopédie. As ''inspecteur général des eaux minérales'', with Pierre Bayen (1725–1798), he was tasked in 1753 to provide analysis of French mineral waters. In 1768 he became a member of the ''Société royale des sciences de Montpellier''. In 1759 he obtained the chair of materia medica at the University of Montpellier.

Jean-Jacques Challet-Venel
Jean-Jacques Challet-Venel (11 May 1811, Geneva – 6 August 1893) was a Swiss politician and member of the Swiss Federal Council (1864–1872). Challet was elected to the Federal Council of Switzerland on 12 July 1864 as the first member from the Canton of Geneva. He handed over office on 31 December 1872 after being voted out of office. He was affiliated with the Free Democratic Party of Switzerland. Paul Venel
Paul Célestin Marie Joseph Venel (25 January 1864 – 25 March 1920) was a French army officer and colonial governor. He served as Commandant of the Military Territory of Zinder (modern-day Niger) from 1908 to 1911, and Commissioner from 1913 to 1915. Venel was in command of the 11th Colonial Infantry Division, part of the Corps expéditionnaire d'Orient, from August to November 1917, fighting in the Macedonian front. Early life and education Paul Célestin Marie Joseph Venel was born on 25 January 1864 in Hesse, the son of Dominique Auguste Venel and Mélanie Béna. His father Auguste was a local teacher who opted for France and moved to Seichamps, after the annexation of a part of his native province by Germany following the Franco-Prussian War.
