Vendsyssel Art Museum
Vendsyssel Kunstmuseum, formerly '' Hjørring Kunstmuseum'', is a state-subsidised art museum in Hjørring, which was founded in 1963 and has a collection of 19th and 20th century art mostly from North Denmark. The museum's collection contains works by the painters Svend Engelund (1908–2007), Johannes Hofmeister (1914–90), Poul Winther (1939–2018) and Poul Anker Bech ( 1942–2009). In addition to major works by the mentioned artists, the museum's collections includes works by Agnete Bjerre (b. 1924), Anna Maria Lütken (1916–2001), Poul Ekelund (1921–76 ), Arne L. Hansen (1921–2009), Søren Elgaard (b.1951), Emil Gregersen (1921–93), Frede Christoffersen (1919–87 ) et al. The museum was founded in 1963. In 1970, the museum took over the premises of Hjørring Central Library. Hjørring () is a town on the island of Vendsyssel-Thy at the top of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. Poul Anker Bech
Poul Anker Bech (13 April 1942 – 7 October 2009) was a Danish painter. He started painting in the 1960s and studied at The Jutland Academy of Art in Aarhus, 1966–67. He quit his job in 1988 to become a full-time painter. Poul Anker Bech painted everyday landscapes and situations, from an unusual point of view. His motives often contain ironic or surrealistic elements. He himself has said that he would like his paintings to easily be remembered, without needing to understand their meaning. On 27 August 2003 a Danish 19-krone stamp was published using one of Poul Anker Bech's paintings, Det forjættede land (the promised land). He was the recipient of a lifetime stipendium from the Danish government's Art Fund, as well as several prizes. Frede Christoffersen
Frede Christoffersen (15 April 1919 – 29 May 1987) was a Danish painter and illustrator. Biography Born in Borup in central Zealand, Christoffersen spent a short period at the Copenhagen Arts and Crafts School before travelling to the Far East in 1940–41. The result was his ''20 Smaa sorte Tegninger'' published in 1941. From 1942 to 1943, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, both at the graphic arts school and at the school of painting, under Aksel Jørgensen and Vilhelm Lundstrøm. In the early 1940s, he began to illustrate books including Nis Petersen's ''Digte'' (Poems) in 1942 and Ester Nagel's ''Mennesker'' (People, 1943). He also created coloured woodcuts and also produced book covers and posters but finally decided to concentrate on painting. Vendel
Vendel is a village at Tierp Municipality in Uppland, Sweden. The village overlooks Vendelsjön, a long inland stretch of water near the Vendel river which has its confluence with the river Fyris. Vendel was the site of an ancient royal estate, part of ''Uppsala öd'', a network of royal estates meant to provide income for the medieval Swedish kings. A large number of archaeological finds have been found here, which have given their name to the Vendel Period. Vendel Church (''Vendels kyrka'') was probably begun to be built in Romanesque style during the latter half of the 13th century. Around 1450, the church was vaulted with brick vaults. The church is most noted for its murals by Johannes Iwan who worked in Uppland during the 15th century. Niels Larsen Stevns
Niels Larsen Stevns (9 July 1864 – 27 September 1941) was a Danish painter and sculptor. He was originally educated as a journeyman painter but attended Kunstakademiet in the years 1886–1887 and 1892–1894. He assisted Joakim Skovgaard decorating the cathedral in Viborg in a simplified style, based on early Christian and Byzantine art.
