Vejtables
The Vejtables were an American rock band from Millbrae, California, United States. They recorded for the Autumn label and found limited success with such songs as " I Still Love You" and a cover version of Tom Paxton's " The Last Thing on My Mind". Lead singer Jan Errico also played drums for the group's recordings, making her one of the relatively few female drummers at the time. The Vejtables began their career playing bars and nightclubs along El Camino Real on the San Francisco Peninsula, even though they were still in high school at the time. Background The band's origin was Portola Valley which is south of San Francisco. They started playing together around 1964 A good body of their Autumn recordings were produced by Sly Stone. Jan Errico
Jan Errico is a drummer and singer who was a member of two San Francisco rock groups in the 1960s, The Vejtables and The Mojo Men. Background She is the daughter of Vincent Errico who, himself was an accomplished drummer. She is the cousin of Greg Errico, the original drummer for Sly and the Family Stone. It has been written that she changed her name from Errico to Ashton to sound more British. Female drummers in rock bands in that era were rather rare. Career In 1962 or 1963, when she was around age 12, she recorded the single "It Was A Lie" (bw "Come Along With Me") for the Shelby Records label. The backing group was credited as The Twilights, who were really Joe Piazza and the Continentals. By 1964, she was a member of The Vejtables, both singing backup and playing drums. "I Still Love You" is a song by the American folk rock band the Vejtables, written by Jan Errico, and first appears on the group's debut single, which was released on Autumn Records in 1965 (''see'' 1965 in music). The Vejtables were signed to the record label after receiving some regional notice on the nightclub circuit, despite all the band members still being enrolled in high school. The Mojo Men
The Mojo Men was an American rock band based in San Francisco. Formed in 1965, the group underwent several name and personnel changes until their 1969 breakup. Their highest-charting ''Billboard'' Hot 100 single was a cover of Buffalo Springfield's "Sit Down, I Think I Love You", which peaked at number 36 in 1967. History Singer/bassist Jim Alaimo (), guitarist Paul Curcio, drummer Dennis DeCarr (Potokar), and keyboardist Don Metchick were bandmates in Florida who moved to San Francisco in 1964 to form a new band. The Last Thing On My Mind
"The Last Thing on My Mind" is a song written by American musician and singer-songwriter Tom Paxton in the early 1960s and recorded first by Paxton in 1964. It is based on the traditional lament song "The Leaving of Liverpool". The song was released on Paxton's 1964 album '' Ramblin' Boy'', which was his first album released on Elektra Records. Autumn Records was a 1960s San Francisco-based pop record label. Among the notable acts on its roster was The Beau Brummels, a band who released a pair of top 20 singles, "Laugh, Laugh" and " Just a Little". Also on the Autumn Records roster was The Great Society, a short-lived Haight-Ashbury group that recorded the first version of " Somebody to Love" on Autumn's short-lived North Beach label, which became a 1967 hit for Jefferson Airplane. Paul Revere & the Raiders (also known as Raiders) were an American rock band formed in Boise, Idaho, in 1958. The Great Society (also known as The Great!! Society!!) was a 1960s San Francisco rock band that existed from 1965 to 1966, and was closely associated with the burgeoning Bay Area acid rock scene. Best known as the original group of model-turned-singer Grace Slick, the initial line-up of the band also featured her then-husband Jerry Slick on drums, his brother Darby Slick on guitar, David Miner on vocals and guitar, Bard DuPont on bass, and Peter van Gelder on flute, bass, and saxophone. Millbrae is a city located in northern San Mateo County, California, United States. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States.
