Henry Babcock Veatch
Henry Babcock Veatch Jr. (September 26, 1911 – July 9, 1999) was an American philosopher. Life and career Veatch was born September 26, 1911, in Evansville, Indiana. He attended Harvard University, where he received his A.B. and M.A. degrees and obtained his PhD in 1937. Veatch came to the Philosophy Department at Indiana University as an instructor in 1937. He was named assistant professor in 1941 and full professor in 1952. While at Indiana University, Veatch received many awards and honors. In 1954, he became the first recipient of the Frederick Bachman Lieber Award for Distinguished Teaching. He was popular with his students and was awarded the Sigma Delta Chi "Brown Derby" Award for most popular professor. In 1961, Veatch was named Distinguished Service Professor. In 1965, Veatch left IU for Northwestern University where he remained until 1973. He then went to Georgetown University, where he was philosophy department chair from 1973 to 1976. Sarah Louise Veatch is an American biophysicist, associate professor of biophysics at University of Michigan. Early life Veatch was raised in Brookline, Massachusetts by her mother, a medical doctor, and her father, William R. Veatch, a membrane biophysicist. Education Veatch's interest in physics began in high school. She was involved in her high school's gay–straight alliance in the mid-1990s "but struggled with her LGBT identity until college". She earned a B.S. in physics in 1998 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Her undergraduate thesis was titled ''VLF magnetic field correlation measurements between LIGO sites''. Her thesis supervisor was Rainer Weiss. Veatch worked for a year as an electrical engineer, programming lighting consoles used in auditoriums. Dan Veatch
Daniel Hayward Veatch (born April 18, 1965) is an American former competition swimmer who represented the United States at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Veatch competed in his signature event, the men's 200-meter backstroke, finishing seventh in the event final. He won the 200-meter backstroke at the Pan Pacific Games in Brisbane in 1987 and again in Tokyo in 1989. He pulled his hamstring just before the U.S. Trials for the 1992 Summer Olympics and so missed those Games. He is openly gay, and lives in San Francisco. Veatch was the first masters swimmer to reach 6000 yards in one hour. John Veatch
John Allen Veatch (5 March 180824 April 1870), a surgeon, surveyor, and scientist, was known for his discovery of large deposits of borax at Tuscan Springs, California, on 8 January 1856. Veatch moved with his family to Texas in 1833, where he surveyed for the Mexican government. He received two land grants in 1835, one located in what would become Beaumont, Texas, and another near the future Sour Lake, Texas. After the Texas Revolution, where he served as a surgeon, Veatch moved to California, where he discovered borax in Lake County, California. Greg Veatch
Greg Veatch is an American soccer forward who has spent most of his career in indoor leagues. He also played one season each in the Western Soccer League and American Professional Soccer League. Veatch began his career in 1989 with the Arizona Condors of the Western Soccer League. In 1990, the WSL merged with the American Soccer League to form the American Professional Soccer League. The Condors jumped to the APSL for the 1990 season, then folded. In 1993, Veatch played for the Arizona Cotton in the USISL indoor league. He then moved to the Arizona Sandsharks of the Continental Indoor Soccer League for the 1994 and 1995 indoor seasons. In the fall of 1995, he signed with the Kansas City Attack of the National Professional Soccer League. He only spent one season with the Attack before signing with the A-League Seattle Sounders on July 17, 1996.
