Vault At The Olympics
The vault is an artistic gymnastics event held at the Summer Olympics. The event was first held for men at the first modern Olympics in 1896. It was held again in 1904, but not in 1900, 1908, 1912, or 1920 when no apparatus events were awarded medals. The vault was one of the components of the men's artistic individual all-around in 1900, however. The men's vault returned as a medal event in 1924 and has been held every Games since. Vault scores were included in the individual all-around for 1924 and 1928, with no separate apparatus final. In 1932, the vault was entirely separate from the all-around. From 1936 to 1956, there were again no separate apparatus finals with the vault scores used in the all-around. The women's vault was added in 1952 and has been held every Games since. The vault is an artistic gymnastics apparatus which gymnasts perform on, as well as the skill performed using that apparatus. Vaulting is also the action of performing a vault. Both male and female gymnasts perform the vault. The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is VT. The apparatus itself originated as a "horse", much like the pommel horse but without the handles; it was sometimes known as the vaulting horse. Savino Guglielmetti
Savino Guglielmetti (26 November 1911 – 23 January 2006) was an Italian gymnast. He competed at the 1932, 1936 and 1948 Olympics and won two gold medals in 1932. Biography A taxi ran over Guglielmetti when he was a child, but he escaped unharmed. He later fell from a four-story building, but managed to cling on power cables and survived. Originally a pole vaulter, he joined a gymnastics club in 1927, where he was coached by Mario Corrias. Three years later he became a member of the national team. Although he won two Olympic gold medals in 1932, he faced a strong competition in Italy, and won his first national all-around title only in 1934. He defended it in 1935, 1937, 1938 and 1939. Stane Derganc
Stane Derganc (23 April 1893 – 9 August 1981) was a Yugoslav gymnast. At the 1928 Olympics, he won two bronze medals for the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (one with team). Today, he is also remembered as the model for the man depicted on the '' Verigar'' stamps, the first stamp series in Slovene. Stane Derganc was born in Ljubljana. He took part in two Olympic Games for Yugoslavia, and two gymnastics World Championships. Bohumil Mořkovský
Bohumil Mořkovský (December 14, 1899 – July 16, 1928) was a Czech gymnast who competed for Czechoslovakia in the 1924 Summer Olympics. He was born and died in Valašské Meziříčí, Moravia. He died less than a month before he could have made a repeat Olympic appearance. In 1924 he won a bronze medal in the vault competition.
