Vassy, Calvados
Vassy () is a former commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France. On 1 January 2016, it was merged into the new commune of Valdallière. It is said to be the origin of the surnames de Vesci and Vesely in England, introduced after the Norman Conquest in 1066. Vassy-sous-Pisy
Vassy-sous-Pisy (, literally ''Vassy under Pisy''; before 2010: ''Vassy'') is a commune in the Yonne department in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in north-central France. Geography The town is built on the summit of a 310 m high conical hill or ''monticule''. History The ancient route from Paris to Lyon passed through Vassy, and in the 13th century we find a mention of the town, under the name of ''Vasseium''. In 1786 investigations were made into the possibility of coal mining here. In the 19th century the town gained a train station on the Auxerre- Avallon line, thanks to the factory of Honoré Gariel. He and his brother Hippolyte had created a company or Société able to produce hydraulic lime. Vassy Karagiorgos, known mononymously as Vassy (frequently stylised as VASSY, born 18 February 1983) is an Australian singer, songwriter and record producer. Biography Vassy, whose parents are both from Greece, was discovered by Australian Radio Station Triple J after she won song of the year. Her single "We Are Young" reached No. 1 on the US ''Billboard'' Dance Chart, making her the first Australian Artist to go No. 1 with her solo single debut release. Kin Vassy
Charles Kindred Vassy (August 16, 1943 – June 23, 1994) was a singer-songwriter, who in addition to his solo recordings also recorded with other artists, most notably Kenny Rogers, Frank Zappa and Elvis Presley. In the 1960s, Vassy was a member of The Back Porch Majority. He left that group in 1969 and joined the country rock band Kenny Rogers and The First Edition. As a member of the group he recorded a top 30 album — '' Something's Burning'' — and one of his own songs "Heed The Call" became a top 40 hit in 1970. He performed lead vocal on the group's 1972 single "School Teacher". In 1973, he sang the "Yipee-Yi-Yo-Ty-Yay's" on the outro of Frank Zappa's single "Montana" from the "Over-Nite Sensation" album. Vassy left the First Edition in 1972 after ''The Ballad of Calico'' album and was replaced by Jimmy Hassell. He went on to work on both a solo career and as a session musician.
