Vasile Alecsandri
Vasile Alecsandri (; 21 July 182122 August 1890) was a Romanian patriot, poet, dramatist, politician and diplomat. He was one of the key figures during the 1848 revolutions in Moldavia and Wallachia. He fought for the unification of the Romanian Principalities, writing "Hora Unirii" in 1856 and giving up his candidacy for the title of prince of Moldavia, in favor of Alexandru Ioan Cuza. He became the first minister of foreign affairs of Romania and was one of the founding members of the Romanian Academy. Alecsandri was a prolific writer, contributing to Romanian literature with poetry, prose, several plays, and collections of Romanian folklore, being considered, alongside Mihai Eminescu, which admired and was inspired by the writings of Alecsandri, as one of the most important Romanian writers in the second half of the 19th century. Galați () is a county ( județ) of Romania, in Moldavia region, with the capital city at Galați. History Historically Galați is part of Moldavia. In 1858, it was represented by Alexandru Ioan Cuza at the ''ad hoc Divan'' at Iași, in the wake of the Crimean War. Prior to 1938 what is now eastern Galați was the separate Covurlui County (Județul Covurlui). Stejaru, Tulcea
Stejaru is a commune in Tulcea County, Northern Dobruja, Romania. It is composed of three villages: Mina Altân Tepe, Stejaru (historical names: ''Eschibaba'', ''Karapelit''), and Vasile Alecsandri. The commune is located in the south-central part of the county, south of the county seat, Tulcea, and north of Constanța, the largest port on the Black Sea. In Stejaru there is the most compact Aromanian community of Romania. The Aromanian language is taught in the schools of the commune. The Altân Tepe copper mine is situated on the territory of the commune; after operating for 105 years, the mine was closed in 2003 due to non-profitability.
