Vasil Angelov
Vasil Tomov Angelov ( bg, Васил Томов Ангелов; March 12, 1882 – August 23, 1953) was a Bulgarian military officer and a revolutionary, a worker of the Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization (IMARO). Biography Vasil Tomov was born in the Rhodopes village of Arda, in the Ottoman Empire. After he finished high school, he enrolled the Military school in Sofia, where he joined the IMARO. In January 1903 he finished the school and became an officer with the rank of a second lieutenant and served in the Ninth Infantry Plovdiv Regiment, but in the same year he left the military and the Emigrant Representative Body of the IMARO sent him as a military instructor in the revolutionary region of Serres, where he joined the revolutionary band of Yane Sandanski. In August 1903, Angelov was a delegate at the Ser region congress that took place in Livadkata, near the village of Pirin, where the action plan for the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising was developed. ... Arda, Bulgaria
Arda ( bg, Арда) is a village in Smolyan Municipality, located in the Smolyan Province of southern Bulgaria. It is located 173.424 km from Sofia and the village covers an area of 17.928 km2. As of 2007, the village had a population of 314 people. The village is located 30 km south of Smolyan. The village is recorded in records of the Ottoman Empire indicating 13 soldiers in the army were from the village. A census of 1912-1913 indicated a population of 200. Some of the inhabitants of the village are Pomaks and follow Islam as their main religion, others are Eastern Orthodox Bulgarians. Annually the Ilinden festival takes place every summer. Near the village of Arda, in the neighbourhoods of Gudevitsa and Lagat (birthplace of folk singer Valya Balkanska) there are springs from one of the largest Bulgarian rivers, the Arda, from which the village takes its name. Demir Hisar (region)
Demir Hisar ( mk, Демир Хисар), is an area spreading on the South West part of Macedonia to the North West of the Pelagonian plain, around the river flow of the Black River (''Crna Reka'') with her inflows. The greater parts of the surrounding area of Demir Hisar are smaller hills and mountains, and a small part which is spread around the mentioned river is low lands. A signature of this area are the mountains Bigla, Ilinska and Plakenska, on which is the highest peak reaching 2000 m which separates the region of Demir Hisar with the lake regions of Prespa and Ohrid. Name The name of Demir Hisar derives from the treasure of iron which the surrounding mountains in this region have, which is why it is called ''Iron Fortress''.
