Vasantha Doreen Peterson (born 18 October 1959: si, වසන්ති චතුරානි), popularly as Vasanthi Chathurani, is an actress in Sri Lankan cinema and television. An extremely natural actress, Vasanthi Chathurani is one of the most successful personalities on Sri Lanka's silver and small screen. At the age 16, she made her debut as a teenager in Sumitra Peiris's ''Gehenu Lamai''. Personal life She was born on 18 October 1959 in Bandarawatta, Gampaha, Sri Lanka. Her father Stanley Peterson, served in the Army, and her mother Lilavathi Peterson, died when she was a child. She had one older sister, Vinita Helen. Both of them grew up in the house of her grandmother, Maggie Nona and grandfather, K.K. Albert. She completed education from Holy Cross Convent, Gampaha. Gampaha (Sinhala: ගම්පහ ; Tamil: கம்பஹா ) is an urban city in Gampaha District, Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is situated to the north-east of the capital Colombo. It is the sixth largest urban area in Western Province, after Colombo, Negombo, Kalutara, Panadura and Avissawella. ''Ahasin Polowata'' (English: ''White Flowers for the Dead'', si, අහසින් පොලොවට) is a 1978 Sri Lankan drama film directed by Dr Lester James Peries and written by Tissa Abeysekara. The film stars Tony Ranasinghe as Sarath, an abusive husband who is haunted by his wife's death. Peries made the film as a favour to D. B. I. S. Siriwardene who was ardent that Peries direct a film based on his wife, Eileen's book. It was well received in Sri Lanka, critically and commercially, and made appearances at several foreign film festivals including the Cairo International Film Festival where it won the Best Film from the Third World award. ''Aadara Hasuna'' is a 1986 Sri Lankan thriller film directed by H.D. Premaratne. Plot Vasanthi Chaturani is a young wife of a retired army officer (Joe Abeywickrama). One day she receives a letter with a gift from a messenger (a street vendor) who claims he is asked to pass the gift and the letter to the beautiful lady in the house by an unidentified person whom Joe Abeywickrama suspects an adulterous partner of his young wife. Suspense-driven Joe questions his wife hard and his wife declares her innocence. But Joe divorces his wife.
