Varva, Chernihiv Oblast
Varva ( uk, Варва) is an urban-type settlement in Pryluky Raion, Chernihiv Oblast of Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Varva settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: History Varva was founded at the site of an ancient settlement called Varyn which was referenced in 1079 within the "Instructions of Vladimir Monomakh", which was apparently the name of the village. For various reasons from the 14th to 16th century. Varva was a part of Lithuania and Poland which had the Magdeburg Laws. Alla Ghilenko (born 12 June 1992) is a Moldovan biathlete. She was born in Varva, Ukraine. She competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics, in Women's individual, and Women's sprint. Career Ghilenko originally competed for Ukraine, and was in their squad for the 2014–15 season. She started competing for Moldova for the 2016–17 skiing season. She qualified for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 where she participated in the women's sprint and placed 64th of 108th and in the qualifying distance 5 kilometre placing 19th of 35 but didn't go on to race the official distance of 10 kilometre. Osip Maksimovich Bodyansky (russian: Осип Максимович Бодянский, uk, Осип Максимович Бодянський; 1808–1877) was a notable Russian Imperial Slavist of Ukrainian Cossack descent who studied and taught at the Imperial Moscow University. Holodomor
The Holodomor ( uk, Голодомо́р, Holodomor, ; derived from uk, морити голодом, lit=to kill by starvation, translit=moryty holodom, label=none), also known as the Terror-Famine or the Great Famine, was a man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine from 1932 to 1933 that killed millions of Ukrainians.
