Variations On A Theme (David Thomas Album)
''Variations on a Theme'' is the second studio album by experimental singer-songwriter David Thomas, released in May 1983 by Rough Trade Records. Like its predecessor '' The Sound of the Sand'', ''Variations on a Theme'' features prominent guitar work from Richard Thompson. In 1997, the album was remastered by Paul Hamann and David Thomas for its inclusion in the ''Monster'' anthology box set. It was the only album in the set to be remixed, and its running order was changed. David Thomas (musician)
David Lynn Thomas (born 1953) is an American singer, songwriter and musician based in Great Britain. He was one of the founding members of the short-lived proto-punkers Rocket from the Tombs (1974–1975), in which he played under the moniker "Crocus Behemoth," and of post-punk group Pere Ubu (1975–present, intermittently). He has also released several solo albums. Though primarily a singer, he sometimes plays melodeon, trombone, musette, guitar or other instruments. Thomas has described his artistic focus as being the "gestalt of culture, geography and sound". Common themes crop up throughout much of his work, such as the US Interstate Highway system, images of roadside or "junk" tourist culture, Brian Wilson, AM radio, and many others. A phonograph record (also known as a gramophone record, especially in British English), or simply a record, is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the center of the disc. At first, the discs were commonly made from shellac, with earlier records having a fine abrasive filler mixed in. Starting in the 1940s polyvinyl chloride became common, hence the name vinyl. The phonograph record was the primary medium used for music reproduction throughout the 20th century. It had co-existed with the phonograph cylinder from the late 1880s and had effectively superseded it by around 1912. Adam Kidron is a British-born ex-music producer, serial entrepreneur, and the ex-Chief Executive Officer of Urban Box Office (UBO), a reggaeton and urban Latino record label, and Yonder Music. Record producer Adam Kidron began his career in the record industry in 1978, He worked in record production for the label Rough Trade Records, as well as Stiff Records, where he worked with artists including Davey Payne and The Blockheads. In 1984, Adam Kidron and his then-girlfriend, Lizzy Mercier Descloux recorded the album ''Gazelles'', with a band made up of leading Sowetan musicians. The bassoon is a woodwind instrument in the double reed family, which plays in the tenor and bass ranges. It is composed of six pieces, and is usually made of wood. It is known for its distinctive tone color, wide range, versatility, and virtuosity. It is a non-transposing instrument and typically its music is written in the bass and tenor clefs, and sometimes in the treble. Jack Monck
Adam John Monck known as Jack (born 14 March 1950, London, England) is a British bass guitarist, songwriter and teacher. Jack Monck started playing bass guitar in 1968 with the blues band Delivery with Steve Miller, Phil Miller and Pip Pyle, later joined by Lol Coxhill and Carol Grimes. The band toured UK playing their own gigs and backing Lowell Fulson, Otis Spann and Champion Jack Dupree among others. In Cambridge in the early 1970s he played with Syd Barrett, Twink, Fred Frith and Chris Cutler of Henry Cow and co-formed Rocksoff who were a collective of songwriters.
