Vancouver ( ) is a major city in western Canada, located in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia. As the List of cities in British Columbia, most populous city in the province, the 2021 Canadian census recorded 662,248 people in the city, up from 631,486 in 2016. The Greater Vancouver, Greater Vancouver area had a population of 2.6million in 2021, making it the List of census metropolitan areas and agglomerations in Canada#List, third-largest metropolitan area in Canada. Burrard (electoral District)
Burrard was a federal electoral district in British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1896 to 1904 and from 1917 to 1925. This riding was created in 1892 from parts of New Westminster riding. In 1903, this riding was redistributed into Vancouver City, Comox—Atlin and Yale—Cariboo, and was re-created from Vancouver City and Comox—Atlin in 1914. It was abolished in 1924 into Vancouver North and Vancouver—Burrard. Vancouver-Fairview
Vancouver-Fairview is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, Canada. Fairview is made up of two rectangles: one bounded by Granville Street to the east, 16th Avenue to the south, Arbutus Street to the West and 4th Avenue to the north; and a second area bounded on the east by Main Street, on the west by Granville Street, to the south by 33rd Avenue and to the north by the West 4th-West 6th-West 2nd Avenue road. Vancouver Island North
Vancouver Island North is a former federal electoral district in British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1997 to 2015. Geography The district included the Regional Districts of Comox Valley, Strathcona, Mount Waddington and the southern half of Central Coast excluding Calvert Island and Hunter Island. These regional districts include the towns of Campbell River, Comox, Courtenay, Port Alice, Port McNeill, Port Hardy, Alert Bay, Quadra Island, Denman Island and Hornby Island. History The electoral district was created in 1996 from Comox—Alberni and North Island—Powell River ridings. The 2012 electoral redistribution dissolved the riding into the new ridings of North Island—Powell River and Courtenay—Alberni for the 2015 election. West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast
West or Occident is one of the four cardinal directions or points of the compass. It is the opposite direction from east and is the direction in which the Sun sets on the Earth. Etymology The word "west" is a Germanic word passed into some Romance languages (''ouest'' in French, ''oest'' in Catalan, ''ovest'' in Italian, ''oeste'' in Spanish and Portuguese). Vancouver North
Vancouver North was a federal electoral district in British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1925 to 1949. This riding was created in 1924 from parts of Burrard and Comox—Alberni ridings. A redistribution in 1933 rearranged the riding's boundaries. The Sunshine Coast and other areas west of it were added to Comox-Alberni, and portions of the Fraser Valley north of the Fraser River were added to Vancouver North. Burnaby north of the BCER line was also in the riding, which excluded the City of New Westminster, which had its own riding. It was abolished in 1947 when it was redistributed into Burnaby—Richmond and Coast—Capilano ridings. New Westminster (electoral District)
New Westminster was a federal electoral district in the province of British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1871 to 1979. This riding was created in 1871 as New Westminster District when British Columbia joined Confederation and filled by special byelection. It was renamed "New Westminster" in 1872. The riding was abolished in 1976, when it was redistributed into the ridings of New Westminster—Coquitlam and Burnaby. History of boundaries Originally, this riding covered the entirety of the Lower Mainland, there being no other riding in the area (Vancouver riding was Vancouver Island, not the present city of Vancouver). Once the City of Vancouver and its suburbs the municipalities of Point Grey and South Vancouver were chartered, those areas were excluded from the New Westminster riding (1903) but the riding continued to include Richmond, Delta and all the Fraser Valley communities up the river to one mile beyond Yale. Vancouver Island (electoral District)
Vancouver Island was a federal electoral district in British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1871 to 1874. It was created when the province of British Columbia joined Confederation in 1871. Like other ridings established in that year, a by-election was called to fill the seat until the general election of 1872. The riding was composed of all those parts of the former Crown Colony of Vancouver Island and adjoining islands and islets, excluding the area around the capital, Victoria District. The 1871 names were all temporary pending ratification of the riding system by the provincial legislature. In 1872, this riding was abolished, and replaced by Vancouver riding. Vancouver South—Burnaby
Vancouver South was a federal electoral district in British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1997 to 2004. Demographics Geography It comprised the southeastern portion of the city of Vancouver and the southwestern portion of the neighbouring city of Burnaby. History This riding was created in 1996 from parts of Vancouver South and New Westminster—Burnaby ridings. It was only contested in two elections. It was abolished in 2003 and used to re-create Vancouver South and to help create Burnaby—New Westminster. A small portion went to Burnaby—Douglas. Burnaby—Kingsway was a federal electoral district in British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 1997. This riding was created in 1987 from parts of Burnaby, North Vancouver—Burnaby and Vancouver Kingsway ridings. It was abolished in 1996 when it was merged into Burnaby—Douglas riding. For its entire history it was represented by New Democratic Party Member of Parliament (MP) Svend Robinson.
