Vancouver (album)
''Vancouver'' is the fourth studio album by Matthew Good, released on October 6, 2009. The album is a concept album, critically reflecting on Good's hometown city of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. In particular, the album is influenced by the social issues in the city's Downtown Eastside and the extreme disparities of wealth between Vancouver neighbourhoods. As Good had fulfilled his recording contract with Universal Music Canada with his previous 2007 release, ''Hospital Music'', he re-signed with the record label in early 2009 upon beginning studio recording. Contributing artists on ''Vancouver'' include Peter Yorn, who sings backup vocals on the ninth track "The Vancouver National Anthem". ''Vancouver'' won the award for " Rock Album of the Year" at the 2011 Juno Awards, making it the second time Good won the award, the first being in 2000 for ''Beautiful Midnight''. ''La Dispute'' is a prose comedy written by Pierre de Marivaux, shown for the first time on 19 October 1744 by the Théâtre-Italien in the Hôtel de Bourgogne. The story involves four orphans (two boys and two girls) who have been raised in isolation, from the world and from each other. An aristocrat releases four human guinea pigs into a sinister Garden of Eden to cause them to consider the question of whether man or woman is more faithful. One of Marivaux's last pieces, ''La Dispute'' was received as a huge failure. It is a funny, erotic and cruel masterpiece. Adaptations have been created from 1972 and onward in various forms. Music Canada (formerly Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA)) is a non-profit trade organization that was founded 9 April 1963 to represent the interests of companies that record, manufacture, produce, and distribute music in Canada. It also offers benefits to some of Canada's leading independent record labels and distributors. History Originally formed as the 10-member Canadian Record Manufacturer's Association, the association changed its name to Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) in 1972 and opened membership to other record industry companies. In 2006, the CRIA was in the news when a number of smaller labels resigned their memberships, complaining that the organization wasn't representing their interests. Jam! was a Canadian website which covers entertainment news. It was part of the Canoe.com online portal, formerly owned and operated by Quebecor through its Sun Media division, and now owned by Postmedia Network. Jam! was the only media outlet that published a comprehensive collection of the official Canadian record charts as compiled by Nielsen SoundScan and Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems. ''Beautiful Midnight'' is the third album released by the Matthew Good Band. It is the band's most commercially successful album. The album won the award for "Best Rock Album" at the 2000 Juno Awards. The album produced four successful singles ("Hello Time Bomb", "Load Me Up", " Strange Days", and "The Future is X-Rated"). Each single was accompanied by a music video, all which received frequent airplay on Much Music. The success of ''Beautiful Midnight'' propelled Good to a celebrity status in Canada he eventually grew to loathe, and his interactions with the media throughout the promotional cycle for the record were often strained and unpleasant.
