Albert Van Raalte
Albert Bernhard van Raalte (21 May 1890, Amsterdam – 23 November 1952) was a Dutch conductor, the son of Izak van Raalte and Carolina van Engel. He began music studies at age 7, from such teachers as Herman Meerlo and Arnold Drilsma (both violin), and J.W. Kersbergen (piano). From 1906 to 1909, van Raalte studied at the Hochschule für Musik Köln, where his teachers included Fritz Steinbach (conducting), Bram Eldering (violin), Lazzaro Uzielli (piano), and Waldemar von Baussern ( harmony and counterpoint). He later pursued further studies in music theory with Max Reger and in conducting with Bruno Walter and Camille Saint-Saëns. His conducting career began with a 1909 concert at the ''Musikalische Gesellschaft'' in Cologne. In 1911–1912, he was a répétiteur at La Monnaie (Brussels). Albertus Van Raalte
Albertus Christiaan van Raalte (17 October 1811 – 27 July 1876) was a 19th-century Dutch Reformed clergyman. Early life and education Van Raalte did not set out to follow in his father's footsteps and become a clergyman. He was initially attracted to medicine, but he enrolled in the theological school at the University of Leiden to please his father. After being spared by cholera, which ravaged the Netherlands, Van Raalte was inspired to devote his life to preaching. Emigration to America Van Raalte was first ordained in the Secession Church in 1836, before moving to the United States, and was eventually ordained in the Reformed Church in America. When he visited the lower peninsula of Michigan, he met with Grand Haven founder William Montague Ferry. Ferry encouraged Van Raalte to settle in the Holland area. Holland is a city in the western region of the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is situated near the eastern shore of Lake Michigan on Lake Macatawa, which is fed by the Macatawa River (formerly known locally as the Black River). Dirk Van Raalte
Dirk B.K. Van Raalte (March 1, 1844 – February 10, 1910) was a Union soldier during the American Civil War and served as a member of the Michigan State Legislature for three different terms. Van Raalte was an active member in the community of Holland, Michigan, as a local businessman. He died from pneumonia and is buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Early life Born on March 1, 1844, in Ommen Netherlands, Van Raalte was the fifth of ten total children of Albertus van Raalte and Christina Van Raalte; seven of those ten children survived into adulthood: three boys and four girls. He was named after a business partner of his father Albertus, who founded Holland, Michigan, and Hope College. Military service Van Raalte enlisted in the army a week after his older brother, Benjamin enlisted on August 20, 1862. Herman van Raalte (8 April 19213 April 2013) was a Dutch football player. Club career Van Raalte played for hometown club HVV Hengelo in the 1930s and 40s before joining Amsterdam side Blauw-Wit during World War II. With Blauw-Wit he lost the 1949–50 Netherlands Football League Championship final. He also played for B.V.C. Amsterdam and V.V. Leeuwarden. Jan van Raalte ( Hattem, 12 August 1968) is a Dutch football manager of amateur squads and formerly a professional footballer, mostly in the Eerste Divisie and one season with Cambuur Leeuwarden in the Eredivisie. Van Raalte won the Rinus Michels Award for coaching amateur teams. He lives in Harkema where he finished his midfield player career. Benjamin Van Raalte House
The Benjamin Van Raalte House, also known as The Maples, is a private house located at 1076 Sixteenth Street in Holland, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. It is one of the last remaining structures associated with the family of the Rev. Albertus C. Van Raalte, who founded Holland in 1847. Raalte () is a municipality and a town in the heart of the region of Salland in the Dutch province of Overijssel. Population centres The municipality consists of the following towns and villages. Raalte is the main place of the municipality, with over 20,000 mostly Roman Catholic inhabitants. It is a regional market, education and shopping centre. Transport Raalte railway station and Heino railway stations are located along the minor railroad Zwolle – Enschede. Frequency: mostly twice per hour. An important road for motorists is the N348 Deventer – Wesepe (mun. Olst-Wijhe – Raalte – Lemelerveld – Ommen ( in northeasterly direction from Deventer).
