Van Howard Kelly (born March 18, 1946 in Charlotte, North Carolina) is a former Major League Baseball player. He played for the San Diego Padres of the National League. Kelly only played in the 1969 and 1970 baseball seasons. In 111 games over two years, Kelly had 66 hits in 298 at-bats. He also hit 4 home runs and had a .221 batting average. A third baseman, abbreviated 3B, is the player in baseball or softball whose responsibility is to defend the area nearest to third base — the third of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. In the scoring system used to record defensive plays, the third baseman is assigned the number 5. Third base is known as the "hot corner", because the third baseman is often the infielder who stands closest to the batter—roughly 90–120 feet away, but even closer if a bunt is expected. The Pioneer League is an independent baseball league that operates in the Rocky Mountains, Rocky Mountain region of the United States. Its teams are not directly affiliated with Major League Baseball (MLB). It is designated as an MLB Partner League. Lethbridge Expos
__NOTOC__ The Lethbridge Dodgers were a team in Minor League Baseball based in Lethbridge, Alberta, that competed from 1975 to 1983. After the 1983 season, the team relocated to Idaho and became the Pocatello Gems. History The Dodgers arrived in Lethbridge when the Ogden Spikers moved to town, 65 years after the city had last hosted a professional baseball team. In their debut 1975 season the team went 35–37, third in the four-team Pioneer League, under manager Van Kelly.
