Erp, Netherlands
Erp () is a village in the southern Netherlands, in the province of North Brabant between 's-Hertogenbosch and Eindhoven. Prior to 1994, Erp was a municipality consisting of the town of Erp and the villages of Boerdonk and Keldonk. In that year, the municipality was merged with the municipality of Veghel to form one municipality under the latter name. The area of the former municipality of Erp has a population of 6,663, while Veghel has a population of 37,655. The municipality of Veghel, which merged into the new municipality of Meierijstad in 2017, consisted of the towns of Veghel and Erp, and the villages of Boerdonk, Keldonk, Mariaheide, Zijtaart and Eerde. Veghel is 5 km northwest of Erp and other neighboring towns, including Uden (north), Boekel (east), Gemert (southeast), Beek en Donk (south) and Sint-Oedenrode (west). Bas van Erp (; 2 July 1979 – 3 April 2016) was a Dutch wheelchair tennis player. He won two bronze medals at the 2004 Paralympic Games; one in the quad singles event and the other one in the quad doubles event. After the 2004 Games he was about to stop playing wheelchair tennis, because he became very ill. When he recovered he decided to reach the Paralympic Games one more time. He competed at the 2008 Summer Paralympics The 2008 Summer Paralympic Games (), the 13th Summer Paralympic Games, took place in Beijing, China from September 6 to 17, 2008. Dirk Koperlager van Erp (1862–1933) was a Dutch American artisan, coppersmith and metalsmith, best known for lamps made of copper with mica shades, and also for copper vases, bowls and candlesticks. He was a prominent participant in the Arts and Crafts Movement, and was active in Oakland and San Francisco, California. Life Dirk van Erp was born January 4, 1862, in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, the son of Willem van Erp and Agatha (born Agatha Tjepkema). Dirk's father and other family members were coppersmiths. He emigrated to the United States in 1890, and arrived in San Francisco in 1891, where he went to work for Union Iron Works. In 1892, he married Mary Richardson Marino and their first child, a daughter named Agatha, was born in 1894. In 1898, he traveled to the Yukon during the Klondike Gold Rush, but failed to find his fortune. He returned to work at the Union Iron Works later that same year. Henrica van Erp (c. 1480 – 26 December 1548), was a Dutch abbess and author of her monastery's Chronicle, making her one of the first historians of 16th-century Netherlands. Biography Henrica van Erp was the daughter of Johan van Erp (knight) and Hildegunda Heins of Heijm. She had a sister Jacoba van Erp, who became abbess of the Cistercian monastery Het Munster in Roermond from 1520 to 1558 or 1559. Her brother Jan van Erp was a "high back" (in Dutch: hoogschout) of 's-Hertogenbosch between 1505 and 1521. Henrica's parents probably placed her in the Benedictine Monastery of Oostbroek (also called the Oostbroek Women's Monastery) in De Bilt when she was a child. About 15 to 20 nuns would have been living there at the time. Oostbroek was one of five monasteries for noble women known to have been established in and around the city of Utrecht at the time. Pepijn van Erp (born 1972) is a Dutch mathematician and skeptical activist. Van Erp studied mathematics at the Radboud University Nijmegen, graduating in 1999. After graduating, Van Erp worked as a statistics consultant at the PTT. Between 2002 and 2005, he lived in Tanzania. Until 2012, Van Erp was secretary at the Stichting Nijmeegs Universitair Fonds (SNUF). In 2011, Van Erp became involved with Stichting Skepsis, where he has served as board member since March 2012.
