Van Dorn House
The Van Dorn House is a historic hilltop residence in Port Gibson, Mississippi built circa 1830 for Peter Aaron Van Dorn and his wife. He was a lawyer from New Jersey who made his fortune in this area, having a practice, gaining political appointments, and becoming a cotton planter. This was the home for years for his large family in Port Gibson, including son Earl Van Dorn. The latter was a career U.S. Army officer who joined the Confederate Army after the start of the Civil War, ultimately reaching the rank of Major General. A historic marker onsite gives the home's date as ca. 1830 and the style as Federal architecture. The residence was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 21, 1971. The owners donated the house and surrounding 5.1 acres to the State of Mississippi Department of Archives and History by December 1972. Port Gibson, Mississippi
Port Gibson is a city in Claiborne County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,567 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census. Port Gibson is the county seat of Claiborne County, which is bordered on the west by the Mississippi River. It is the site of the Claiborne County Courthouse. The first European settlers in Port Gibson were French colonists in 1729; it was part of their ''La Louisiane''. After the United States acquired the territory from France in 1803 in the Louisiana Purchase, the town was chartered that same year. To develop cotton plantations in the American South, plantations in the area after Indian Removal of the 1830s, planters who moved to the state brought with them or imported thousands of enslaved African Americans from the Upper South, disrupting many families. Andrew Jackson

Confederate Army Of West Tennessee
The Army of West Tennessee was a short-lived Confederate army led by Maj. Gen. Earl Van Dorn, which fought principally in the Second Battle of Corinth. The army was organized from elements of the Army of the West on September 28, 1862, with Earl Van Dorn its first and only commander. Spring Hill is a city in Maury and Williamson counties, Tennessee, located approximately south of Nashville. Spring Hill's population as of 2020 was 50,005. Mason is a city in, and the county seat of, Mason County, Texas, United States. The city is an agricultural community on Comanche Creek southwest of Mason Mountain, on the Edwards Plateau and part of the Llano Uplift. The population was 2,114 at the 2010 census. Greek Revival Architecture
The Greek Revival was an architectural movement which began in the middle of the 18th century but which particularly flourished in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, predominantly in northern Europe and the United States and Canada, but also in Greece itself following independence in 1832. McGregor (Port Gibson, Mississippi)
McGregor, now located on SR 547 in Port Gibson, Mississippi, is a country house built in 1835. It was designed in Greek Revival style. It is privately owned and not open to the public. The one-and-a-half story house was designed and/or built by planter and Judge Peter Aaron Van Dorn (1773-1837) for one of his daughters, likely as a wedding present. The gable-frame wooden residence in built on the center hall plan. The house has inset galleries along the north (front) and south (rear) facades.
