River Vamsadhara or River Banshadhara is an important east flowing river between Rushikulya and Godavari, in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh states in India. The river originates in the border of Thuamul Rampur in the Kalahandi district and Kalyansinghpur in Rayagada district of Odisha and runs for a distance of about 254 kilometers, where it joins the Bay of Bengal at Kalingapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The total catchment area of the river basin is about 10,830 square kilometers. The average water yield in the river basin at Gotta barrage is 115 billion cubic feet in a year. Tourist attractions of Mukhalingam and Kalingapatnam in Srikakulam district are located on the banks of this river. Mahendratanaya River is a major tributary river of Vamsadhara originating in Gajapati district of Odisha and it joins Vamsadhara in Andhra Pradesh upstream of Gotta barrage. The Interstate River Water Disputes Act, 1956 (IRWD Act) is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted under Article 262 of Constitution of India on the eve of reorganization of states on linguistic basis to resolve the water disputes that would arise in the use, control and distribution of an interstate river or river valley. Rayagada District
Rayagada district is a district in southern Odisha, a state in India, which became a separate district in October 1992. Its population consists mainly of tribes, primarily the Khonds and the Soras. Boddepalli Rajagopala Rao
Boddepalli Rajagopala Rao (12 March 1923 – 22 February 1992) was an Indian politician. Political history Boddepalli Rajagopala Rao represented Srikakulam (Lok Sabha constituency) in Andhra Pradesh for six terms between 1952 and 1967 (1st, 2nd and 3rd Lok Sabha) and 1971 to 1984 (5th, 6th and 7th Lok Sabha). He was elected to the Indian Parliament for the first time as Independent candidate and later joined Indian National Congress. He started the career from Panchayat level and reached the highest forum of democracy in India. He was director of Andhra Pradesh State Co-operative Bank, Hyderabad for 6 years. Rajagopala Rao Boddepalli died on 22 February 1992 at Visakhapatnam at the age of 68 years. In his career he had successfully completed his mission to add the kalinga caste from OC to BC as a result of which many people of that caste are able to get higher education and opportunities. Mukhalingam, also known as Srimukhalingam or Mukhalinga is a village panchayat in Jalumuru mandal of Srikakulam district in indian state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Kalingapatnam is a village in Srikakulam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located in Gara mandal of Srikakulam revenue division. It has one of the major beach sand deposits of the state. In medieval era it was famous for the ancient port city of Kalinga. Salihundam, is a village and panchayat in Gara Mandal of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh.
