Vamanrao Deshpande
Vamanrao H. Deshpande (1907–1990; also known as Vaman Hari Deshpande) was an Indian music critic, musicologist and a prolific writer on the subject of Hindustani classical music. Career While he was a practising chartered accountant of fifty years' standing and also a senior partner in the Batliboi Purohit chartered accountancy firm in Mumbai, India, he claimed music as his first love. Having been initiated into music in his early childhood by his father, he later received training from stalwarts in three major traditions: in the Gwalior tradition by Yadavrao Joshi and Shankarrao Kulkarni, in the Kirana tradition by Sureshbabu Mane, and in the Jaipur tradition by Naththan Khan and Mogubai Kurdikar. He shunned the concert stage, but performed regularly on the All India Radio, Mumbai, from 1932 to 1985. ''The Oxford Companion to Music'' defines music criticism as "the intellectual activity of formulating judgments on the value and degree of excellence of individual works of music, or whole groups or genres". In this sense, it is a branch of musical aesthetics. With the concurrent expansion of interest in music and information media over the past century, the term has come to acquire the conventional meaning of journalistic reporting on musical performances. Satyasheel Deshpande
Pandit Satyasheel Deshpande (born 9 January 1951) is a Hindustani classical musician who specialises in singing Khayal. He is a disciple of Pandit Kumar Gandharva and the son of musicologist Vamanrao Deshpande. Career Deshpande has been performing in music festivals and has also occasionally sung for Bollywood films. His most remembered performances being those in "Joothe Naina Bole" in '' Lekin...'' (1991) and "Man Anand Anand Chhayo" in '' Vijeta'' (1982), both duets with Asha Bhosle. Other films have seen him singing with Lata Mangeshkar. In 2010, he was also part of the 112 singers who sang the " Marathi Abhimaangeet". Recently in February 2015, he created Five Minute Classical Music (FMCM) khayal piece for Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation. The project was launched for "people who don't have any prior experience of listening to Indian classical music" for a khayal usually last for 20–45 minutes. Kishori Amonkar
Kishori Amonkar (10 April 1932 – 3 April 2017) was a leading Indian classical vocalist, belonging to the Jaipur ''gharana'', or a community of musicians sharing a distinctive musical style. She was a performer of the classical genre ''khyal'' and the light classical genres ''thumri'' and ''bhajan''. Amonkar trained under her mother, classical singer Mogubai Kurdikar also from the Jaipur ''gharana'', but she experimented with a variety of vocal styles in her career. Bhimsen Joshi
Pandit Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi BR (; ; 4 February 1922 – 24 January 2011), also known by the honorific prefix Pandit, was one of the greatest Indian vocalists from Karnataka, in the Hindustani classical tradition. He is known for the '' khayal'' form of singing, as well as for his popular renditions of devotional music (''bhajans'' and '' abhangs''). Joshi belongs to the Kirana gharana tradition of Hindustani Classical Music. He is noted for his concerts, and between 1964 to 1982 Joshi toured Afghanistan, Italy, France, Canada and USA.
