Valor (lit. ''Valour'') is a conservative and right-wing populist political party in Guatemala. History The party was established in 2017 by Ana Ingrid Bernat Cofiño. Zury Ríos
Zury Mayté Ríos Sosa (born 24 January 1968) is a Guatemalan politician. She is the daughter of the late general, and President of Guatemala Efraín Ríos Montt. She began her political career with her father, whom she defended against accusations of genocide against him. She served four terms in Congress, from 1995 to 2012, where she was chair of the Foreign Relations Committee. She also served on the Steering Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and was the chair of the IPU's Latin American Group where she was elected unanimously by parliamentarians from the Latin American nations. 2015 Guatemalan General Election
General elections were held in Guatemala on 6 September 2015 to elect the President and Vice President, all 158 Congress deputies, all 20 deputies to the Central American Parliament, and mayors and councils for all 338 municipalities in the country. The Renewed Democratic Liberty became the largest party in Congress with 44 seats. Since no presidential candidate received more than 50% of the vote, a run-off took place on 25 October. Jimmy Morales won the contest, taking 67.4% of the vote, in a landslide victory over Sandra Torres. Héctor Adolfo Cifuentes Mendoza (born in 1951) is a Guatemalan attorney and politician who served as Minister of Labor and Social Welfare from 1997 to 1998. He was the vice presidential nominee in the 2023 election running alongside Zury Ríos. Biography Cifuentes graduated as a lawyer from Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala. He became involved in the political project of Álvaro Arzú and quickly became one of his closest collaborators. He was one of the founding members of the National Advancement Party (PAN), where he was elected as Secretary-General. In 1996, President Álvaro Arzú appointed Cifuentes as Secretary General of the Presidency. In January 1997, Arzú reshuffled his cabinet and Cifuentes took over as Minister of Labor. Roberto Molina Barreto (born November 8, 1955) is a Guatemalan attorney and politician, who served as Attorney General of the Nation from 2005 to 2006, magistrate of the Constitutional Court from 2006 to 2016 and from 2020 and President of the Constitutional Court on three occasions. Constitutional Court Of Guatemala
The Constitutional Court of Guatemala is the highest court for constitucional law in the Republic of Guatemala. It is tasked with preserving the constitutional order by ruling on questions of the constitutionality of laws or state actions. The Court is normally composed of five titular or primary magistrates who serve five year terms. Each titular magistrate is appointed with a substitute. In special cases two substitutes are added to the bench for a total of seven to hear that case. Each titular member serves for one year as the president of the court. History The Court was established by Guatemala's 1985 Constitution. The 1985 Constitution was written after the suspension of the prior constitution as part of Efraín Ríos Montt's Coup d'état on March 23, 1982. The Unionist Party (''Partido Unionista'') is a conservative political party in Guatemala, who advocates the re-creation of a Central American union. At the legislative elections, 9 November 2003, the party won 6.2% of the popular vote and 7 out of 158 seats. 2023 Guatemalan General Election
General elections were held in Guatemala on 25 June 2023 to elect the president and vice president, all 160 seats of the Congress, all 20 members of the Central American Parliament, and mayors and councils for all 340 municipalities in the country. Incumbent president Alejandro Giammattei was constitutionally prohibited from running for a second four-year term. As no presidential candidate obtained over 50% of the vote, a second round was scheduled between the top two finishers on 20 August. General elections were held in Guatemala on 16 June 2019, to elect the President, Congress and local councils.
