Valley of Saints is a 2012 in film, 2012 Indian film in Kashmiri language directed by Musa Syeed. Syeed's directorial debut is a romantic film set in Dal lake, Srinagar, which also raises an environmental issue surrounding the lake. It won the Sundance Film Festival World Dramatic Audience Award in 2012. It tied for the Alfred P. Sloan Prize with the American film ''Robot & Frank''. Nicholas Bruckman
Nicholas Bruckman is an American documentary filmmaker. He is best known for his work on the documentaries ''La Americana'' and ''Not Going Quietly''. Life and career Bruckman was born in London. He graduated from State University of New York at Purchase, SUNY Purchase. He is the founder of ''People's Television'', an independent film and commercial production company. In 2008, Bruckman directed his debut feature documentary, ''La Americana'', which aired worldwide on networks including National Geographic and Al Jazeera English, Al Jazeera. Dal Lake
Dal is a lake in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. It is an urban lake, the second largest lake in Jammu and Kashmir, and the most visited place in Srinagar by tourists and locals. It is integral to tourism and recreation in the Kashmir valley and is variously known as the "Lake of Flowers", "Jewel in the crown of Kashmir" or "Srinagar's Jewel". Rasul Mir
Rasul Mir (Kashmiri: ) also known as Rasul Mir Shahabadi, was a romantic poet of Kashmir in the 19th century. He was born at Doru Shahabad, a historic town in Anantnag district of Kashmir. He is often referred to as '''imām-e-ishqiya shairi (The epitome of romantic poetry) for his literary contribution to Kashmiri romanticism. Mir was said to have been alive in around 1855 when Mahmood Gami and Soch Kral saeb died. He died a few years before Maqbool Shah Kralawari. Though, Muhammad Y. Zerobridge
Zerobridge was a New York-based indie alternative/rock band from 2001–2017 founded by brothers Mubashir (songwriter, lead singer, and rhythm guitarist) and Mohsin (drums) Mohi-ud-Din. The band draws its name from the actual bridge in Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir. Greg Eckelman was added to the lineup on bass in 2004. 2010 Kashmir Unrest
The 2010 Kashmir unrest was a series of violent protests and riots in the Kashmir Division and Northern Jammu Division of Jammu and Kashmir, India which started in June 2010 after the Indian Army claimed to have killed three Pakistani infiltrators in which a soldier of the Territorial Army, a counter-insurgent and a former special police officer had found three young men from their Nadihal village in Baramulla district and killed them in a "staged" encounter at Sona Pindi. The protests occurred in a movement launched by Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir in June 2010, who called for the complete demilitarisation of Jammu and Kashmir. Shikara
The shikara is a type of wooden boat found on Dal Lake and other water bodies of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir Shikaras are of various sizes and are used for multiple purposes, including transportation. A usual shikara seats six people, with the driver paddling at the rear. Like the Venetian gondolas, they are a cultural symbol of Kashmir. Some shikaras are still used for fishing, harvesting aquatic vegetation (usually for fodder), and transport, while most are covered with tarpaulins and are used by tourists. Some are used as floating homes. Construction The craft relies on deodar wood (which does not decompose in water) ranges from 25 to 41 feet in length.
