''Valery Chkalov'' (russian: Валерий Чкалов, UK title - ''The Red Flyer'', United States title - ''Wings of Victory'') is a Soviet biopic about the life of Valery Chkalov, directed by Mikhail Kalatozov. The screenplay was written by Georgy Baidukov, Boris Chirskov and Dmitri Tarasov. The film was produced by Lenfilm and distributed in the United States by Artkino Pictures (1941), and later by Top1Video (1999). Mikhail Konstantinovich Kalatozov ( ka, მიხეილ კალატოზიშვილი, russian: Михаил Константинович Калатозов; 28 December 1903 – 26 March 1973), born Mikheil Kalatozishvili, was a Soviet film director of Georgian origin who contributed to both Georgian and Russian cinema. Arkady Raikin
Arkady Isaakovich Raikin (russian: Аркадий Исаакович Райкин; – 17 December 1987) was a Soviet stand-up comedian, theater and film actor, and stage director. He led the school of Soviet and Russian humorists for about half a century. Biography Raikin was born into a Jewish family in Riga, in the Governorate of Livonia of the Russian Empire (present-day Latvia). He graduated from the Leningrad Theatrical Technicum in 1935 and worked in both state theatres and variety shows. In 1939, he founded his own theatre in Leningrad, where he used skits and impersonations to ridicule the inefficiency of Communist bureaucracy and the Soviet way of life. He also appeared in several comedies during and after the Great Patriotic War. Raikin created an array of popular satirical characters, some of which were featured in the TV serial ''People and Mannequins''. Boris Fyodorovich Andreyev (russian: Бори́с Фёдорович Андре́ев; – 25 April 1982) was a Soviet and Russian actor. He appeared in 51 films between 1939 and 1982. People's Artist of the USSR (1962). Andreev won Stalin Prizes for Pyryev’s ''Ballad of Siberia'' (1946) and '' The Fall of Berlin'' (1950). Biography Boris Andreyev was born 9 February 1915 in Saratov, Russian Empire to a family of workers. His childhood and youth years were spent in Atkarsk, Saratov Governorate. After completing the seventh grade at school, Andreyev went to work as a mechanic-electrician at a сombine factory, where he started going to a local theatrical circle. There he was noticed by a famous Saratov actor, Ivan Slonov, who suggested that he enter the Saratov Theatre Technical School, from which Boris Andreyev successfully graduated in 1937. Alexander Vasilyevich Belyakov (russian: Алекса́ндр Васи́льевич Беляко́в; – 28 November 1982) was a Soviet flight navigator who, together with command pilot Valery Chkalov and co-pilot Georgy Baydukov, set a record for the longest uninterrupted flight in 1936 and made , flying from Moscow to Vancouver, Washington. He was elected to the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union and served as a lieutenant general of the Soviet Air Forces.
