Valentine Boucher
Major-General Valentine Boucher CB CBE (14 February 1904 – 1 April 1961) was a British Army officer who served as Director of Military Intelligence. Military career Boucher was commissioned into The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment). He served in the Second World War as commanding officer of the 9th Battalion The Buffs from May 1942 and Director of Movements at General Headquarters, India from January 1944, three months after his promotion to brigadier. After the War, he became Director of Personnel Movement at the War Office in 1946, Deputy Director of Military Intelligence at the War Office in 1948 and Commander of 24th Infantry Brigade in 1950. He went on to be Director of Military Intelligence in July 1953 in which role he sought to ban the publication of ''The London Cage'', a book by Alexander Scotland, which included allegations of torture by British soldiers and which a War Office Security official at MI11 decided "would not show the War Office on a good light". ... MI11, or Military Intelligence, Section 11, was a department of the British Directorate of Military Intelligence, part of the War Office. During the Second World War, MI11 was responsible for field security: protecting British military personnel from enemy agents and " fifth columnists" amongst civilian populations, in theatres of war. Cedric Rhys Price
Major-General Cedric Rhys Price CB, CBE (1905–1987) was a British Army officer who served as Director of Military Intelligence. Military career Educated at Selborne College in South Africa and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Rhys Price was commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1925. He served in the Second World War as an officer in the 56th (London) Division and then as assistant military secretary in the War Office. After the War he became Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the British Joint Services Mission in Washington, D.C. in 1952, Brigadier on the General Staff at Eastern Command in February 1955 and Director of Military Intelligence in June 1956 before retiring in August 1959. After leaving the Army he joined the staff of the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations. Major General Arthur Charles Shortt, (2 April 1899 – June 1984) was a British Army officer who served as Director of Military Intelligence from 1949 to 1953. Military career Shortt was commissioned into the Royal Engineers on 26 August 1916, during the First World War. He served during the interwar period, where he was in charge of a company of Gentlemen Cadets at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich from January 1931. Shortt served in the Second World War as Director of Technical Training at the War Office from May 1943, before seeing action in North-West Europe in 1944. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in June 1945.
