Valentin Gheorghiu
Valentin Gheorghiu (; born 21 March 1928) is a Romanian classical pianist and composer. Biography Gheorghiu was born in Galaţi, Romania in 1928. He was first a pupil of Constanța Erbiceanu at the Bucharest Academy of Music and then of Lazare Lévy at the Conservatoire National de Musique in Paris, France France (), officially the French Republic ( ), is a country primarily located in Western Europe. Frédéric Chopin
Frédéric François Chopin (born Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin; 1 March 181017 October 1849) was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the Romantic period, who wrote primarily for solo piano. The Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16, composed by Edvard Grieg in 1868, was the only concerto Grieg completed. It is one of his most popular works and is among the most popular of the genre. Structure The concerto is in three movements: Performance time of the whole concerto is usually about 30 minutes. Instrumentation Grieg scored the concerto for solo piano, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets (in A and B), 2 bassoons, 2 horns in E and E, 2 trumpets in C and B, 2 trombones, tuba, timpani and strings (violins, violas, cellos and double basses). The piano is a stringed keyboard instrument in which the strings are struck by wooden hammers that are coated with a softer material (modern hammers are covered with dense wool felt; some early pianos used leather). The Transylvania State Philharmonic Orchestra of Cluj-Napoca ( ro, Filarmonica de Stat Transilvania) has grown to be a valuable institution of music, having a sustained presence in the Romanian and European cultural space. Emil Simon
Emil Simon (24 September 1936 – 25 February 2014) was a Romanian conductor and composer. Life and career Born in 1936 in Chișinău, Romania, Emil Simon began studying the piano at the early age of 6. After acquiring more musical knowledge at the Music High School, he continued his studies at the "Gheorghe Dima" Conservatory in Cluj, Romania where he studied under the composer and musicologist Sigismund Toduță and conductor Antonin Ciolan. During these years, he was awarded the "George Enescu" State Scholarship. After graduating in 1960 from the Conservatory in Cluj with a double major in Symphonic Orchestra Conducting and Composition, Simon was immediately appointed Permanent Conductor of the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Cluj, a position he held for most of his career of over 50 years. The Piano Concerto in A minor, Opus number, Op. 54, by the German Romantic music, Romantic composer Robert Schumann was completed in 1845 and is the composer's only piano concerto. The complete work was premiered in Dresden on 4 December 1845. It is one of the most widely performed and recorded piano concertos from the Romantic period.
