Valchedram
Valchedram ( bg, Вълчедръм ; also transliterated ''Vǎlčedrǎm'', ''Vulchedrum'', etc.) is a town in northwestern Bulgaria, part of Montana Province. It is the administrative centre of Valchedram Municipality, which lies in the northeastern part of Montana Province. As of December 2009, the town has a population of 3,817 inhabitants. Valchedram is located in the western Danubian Plain, near the Tsibritsa and Danube rivers. The first school in Valchedram was founded in 1780. The town has an imposing Bulgarian Orthodox church of Saint Paraskeva (built in 1936), as well as a small museum. Valchedram Municipality ( bg, Община Вълчедръм) is a frontier municipality ('' obshtina'') in Montana Province, Northwestern Bulgaria, located along the right bank of Danube river in the Danubian Plain. It is named after its administrative centre - the town of Valchedram. The area borders on Romania beyond the Danube to the north. The municipality embraces a territory of 429 km² with a population of 9,771 inhabitants, as of February 2011. Romani people in Bulgaria (; ) constitute Europe's densest gypsy minority. The Romani people in Bulgaria may speak Bulgarian, Turkish or Romani, depending on the region. According to the latest census in 2011, the number of the Romani is 325,343, constituting 4.4% of the total population, in which only one ethnic group could be opted as an answer and 10% of the total population did not respond to the question on ethnic group. In a conclusive report of the census sent to Eurostat, the authors of the census (the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria) identified the census results on ethnicity as a "gross manipulation".
