Vakhtang Megrelishvili
Vakhtang "Vakho" Megrelishvili (Georgian: ვახტანგ "ვახო" მეგრელიშვილი, born on February 28, 1972) is a Georgian politician and libertarian activist, a former Deputy Minister of Health, Labor and Social Affairs and a member of Parliament since 2020. He is one of the founders of Girchi, a libertarian political party, and an outspoken unschooling advocate. Biography Early life and career Vakhtang Megrelishvili was born on February 28, 1972, in Telavi, a city in the Kakheti region of then-Soviet Georgia. In 1996, he graduated from the Tbilisi Medical Academy, after which he spent two years in surgical residency. After a short time working as a doctor, he joined the public sector as a staffer for the Health Committee of Parliament in 1999. The Parliament of Georgia ( ka, საქართველოს პარლამენტი, tr) is the supreme national legislature of Georgia. It is a unicameral parliament, currently consisting of 150 members; of these, 120 are proportional representatives and 30 are elected through single-member district plurality system, representing their constituencies. Kakha Bendukidze
Kakha Bendukidze ( ka, კახა ბენდუქიძე; 20 April 1956 – 13 November 2014) was a Georgian statesman, businessman and philanthropist, founder of the Knowledge Foundation and head of the supervisory board of Agricultural and Free Universities. A biologist by education, Bendukidze started his own business, Bioprocess, which manufactured biochemicals for scientific research in 1987. Soon he became known as one of Russia's leading libertarians. He led a working group on tax and currency within the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and pressed for changes in tax policy, which ultimately included adoption of a flat 13 percent tax rate. European Georgia ( ka, ევროპული საქართველო, ''evropuli sakartvelo'') is a political party in Georgia founded in Tbilisi in January 2017, primarily by prominent former members of the United National Movement. 2020 Georgian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on 31 October and 21 November 2020 to elect the 150 members of Parliament. The ruling Georgian Dream party led by Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia won re-election for a third term in office, making it the first party in Georgian history to do so. The election also saw a record number of opposition parties elected to parliament. The opposition boycotted the second round of the elections and called on voters to abstain; turnout in the second round was subsequently only 26.29%. 2018 Georgian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Georgia on 28 October 2018. The pre-election campaign was marred by a polarized political environment and a series of secret tape recordings aired by the pro-opposition Rustavi 2 TV, leading to allegations of kidnappings and torture by investigators to secure convictions, pressure and coercion on businesses and media, high-level corruption, and selective justice. International observers assessed the elections as competitive and free, stressing that "one side enjoyed an undue advantage and the negative character of the campaign on both sides undermined the process", while the misuse of administrative resources "blurred the line between party and state." Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on 8 October 2016 to elect the 150 members of Parliament. The ruling Georgian Dream coalition, led by Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, sought a second term in office.
