The Tuvalu national football team represents the country of Tuvalu in international association football. It is fielded by the Tuvalu National Football Association, the governing body of football in Tuvalu, and competes as an associate member of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), which encompasses the countries of Oceania. Tuvalu played their first international match on 30 August 1979 in a 18–0 loss to Tahiti in Suva. The Tuvalu national football team is the international football team of Tuvalu. Football in Tuvalu is played at the club and international level. The Tuvalu national team draws players from the Tuvalu A-Division and trains at the Tuvalu Sports Ground at Funafuti. In association football, a substitute is a player who is brought on to the pitch during a match in exchange for an existing player. Substitutions are generally made to replace a player who has become tired or injured, or who is performing poorly, or for tactical reasons (such as bringing a striker on in place of a defender).
