Väino Aren
Väino Aren (11 August 1933 – 18 April 2023) was an Estonian ballet dancer, actor, and operetta singer. Career Born in Pala, Tartu County, Aren studied at Vanemuine Ballet Studio in Tartu. From 1953 until 1955, he studied at the Leningrad Choreographic School. In 1959 he graduated from Tallinn Choreographic School. From 1950 until 1971 (with pauses), he was ballet soloist at Estonia Theatre; from 1971 until 1975 operetta soloist and since 1978 a stage manager at Estonia Theatre. He also played in films and television series, such as his longstanding role as Kristjan Rosenkampf-Jägerfreund in the Eesti Televisioon drama series ''Õnne 13'' from 1993 until his death in 2023. Personal life Väino Aren's father was a railway worker and his mother a kindergarten teacher. His older brother was actor Rein Aren. Väino Uibo
Väino Uibo (7 October 1942 – 24 January 2024) was an Estonian actor, singer, director and theatre leader. Life and career In 1970 he graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Tallinn State Conservatory Performing Arts Department. Between 1970–1975 and 1977–1981 he was an actor at Vanemuine theatre, between 1981–1989 at Ugala Theatre. From 1998 to 2001, he was the head of the Kuressaare Town Theatre ( et, Kuressaare Linnateater). Besides theatre roles he appeared also in four films. From 1993 until 1998, he was the mayor of Elva, Estonia, Elva. Personal life and death Uibo was married to cultural organizer Riina Uibo, with whom he had two sons, including singer and politician Toomas Uibo. In 1989, the family relocated to Sweden. Uibo returned to Estonia in 1992, following the Estonian Restoration of Independence. Uibo died on 24 January 2024, at the age of 81. Karl Vaino
Karl Genrikhovich Vaino ( et, Karl Vaino; russian: Карл Генрихович Вайно; ''alias'' Kirill Voinov; 28 May 1923 – 12 February 2022) was an Estonian SSR politician. From 1978 to 1988 he served as the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Estonia. Early life and career Vaino was born in May 1923 in the Siberian city of Tomsk. He was born in the family of the communist (bolshevik) Genrikh Vaino (born Heinrich Vaino; 1889–1965), who moved from Estonia in 1918, and Lydia Savi, the daughter of Estonian immigrants who had settled in Siberia at the beginning of the 20th century. Heinrich, after the bolsheviks' failed uprising in the 1918–1920 Estonian War of Independence, fled to Soviet Russia. Joonas Vaino
Joonas Vaino (born 22 April 1992) is an Estonian professional basketball player. He is currently playing for Finnish club Namika Lahti at the power forward position. Club career Joonas Vaino came through youth ranks to play first-tier basketball for BC Rakvere Tarvas and made his debut in KML when he was 16 years old. In his first year, he spent most of the time on the bench, because his season was marred with injuries. The following season he joined Korisliiga team LrNMKY though, where he stayed for a season. He rejoined the hometown team which had reached the finals during his Finnish year, and played there for two seasons. Since 2012, he has been playing with Namika Lahti. International career Vaino has been a member of many youth national teams with his native Estonia. Anton Eduardovich Vaino (russian: Антон Эдуардович Вайно; born 17 February 1972) is a Russian diplomat and politician of Estonian descent. Currently he is the Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office. Vaino is the grandson of Karl Vaino, the former First Secretary of the Communist Party of Estonia. Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Vaino Olavi Partanen (27 May 1928 – 23 October 1969) was a member of the Canadian Forces and a recipient of the Cross of Valour for his actions during an engine room explosion aboard HMCS ''Kootenay'' on 23 October 1969. The Cross of Valour is Canada's highest decoration for bravery in non-combat circumstances. He was born in Antrea, Finland.
