Vail School District
Founded in 1903, the Vail Unified School District (often shortened to simply Vail School District) is the school district in the town of Vail, Arizona. It also serves portions of nearby Tucson, Arizona. It operates an inclusive preschool, ten elementary schools, six middle schools, and five high schools, plus the Vail Academy and High School, a K-12 school, serving a population of more than 14,000 students from preschool to twelfth grade. History The district began operations in 1903. In 1999 the School Facilities Board of the State of Arizona approved funding the construction of a comprehensive high school for the district, which previously did not have one. Vail, Arizona
Vail is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pima County, Arizona, United States. It is southeast of Tucson. The population was 10,208 at the 2010 census, up from 2484 in the 2000 census. The area is known for the nearby Colossal Cave, a large cave system, and the Rincon Mountains District of Saguaro National Park, a top tourism spot within Arizona. Vail was originally a siding and water stop on the Southern Pacific Railroad. It was located on the last section of flat land before the train tracks followed the old wagon road into the Cienega Creek bed. Vail was named after pioneer ranchers Edward and Walter Vail, who established ranches in the area in the late 19th century. Vail deeded a right of way across his ranch to the railroad. Vail owned the Vail Ranch, his brother Walter Vail owned the nearby Empire Ranch, now part of the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area. Mica Mountain High School is a high school in Tucson, Arizona, the fourth public high school operated by the Vail Unified School District. History A $61.3 million bond narrowly passed by Vail School District voters, by a margin of 483 votes, in November 2018 allowed the school district to move forward with the first phase of the Mica Mountain project, for which $35 million was earmarked.
