VVRSSNN
VVRSSNN (pronounced "Version")., released on K Records in 2003, is the only full-length album made by musician Adam Forkner under the band name VVRSSNN. Soon after the release of ''VVRSSNN'', Forkner permanently changed the name of his solo project to White Rainbow. Content While it was promoted as Forkner's debut solo outing, the album features many collaborations with other artists. Opening track "Double Dragons" features vocals by Dave Longstreth and synthesizers by Franz Prichard of Yume Bitsu. "Bruise Blood" feature vocals by Bobby Birdman. Yume Bitsu (meaning "dream beats" in Japanese) was an American post-rock band from Portland, Oregon, active from 1995 and 2002. History Their debut ''Giant Surface Music Falling to Earth Like Jewels From the Sky'' was self-released in 1998 and was re-released by Ba Da Bing Records in 1999. Their self-titled second album and was released in 1999. Their third LP, ''Auspicious Winds'', was released by K Records in 2000. Their fourth and final album ''Golden Vessyl of Sound'' was released in 2002 by K Records. It received a rating of 8.5 out of 10 from music criticism site pitchfork.com. Rob Kieswetter, better known by his stage name Bobby Birdman, is an American musician. Kieswetter is originally from Nevada City, California, and lives in Los Angeles, California. He has released albums on Hush Records, Not Not Fun, Fryk Beat, States Rights Records. Modest Mouse
Modest Mouse is an American rock band formed in 1992 in Issaquah, Washington, and currently based in Portland, Oregon. The founding members are lead singer/guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green, and bassist Eric Judy. Strongly influenced by Pavement, Pixies, XTC, and Talking Heads, they rehearsed, rearranged, and recorded demos for almost two years before finally signing with small-town indie label K Records and releasing numerous singles. Steve Reich
Stephen Michael Reich ( ; born October 3, 1936) is an American composer known for his contribution to the development of minimal music in the mid to late 1960s. Reich's work is marked by its use of repetitive figures, slow harmonic rhythm, and canons. Reich describes this concept in his essay, "Music as a Gradual Process", by stating, "I am interested in perceptible processes. I want to be able to hear the process happening throughout the sounding music." Calvin Johnson (born November 1, 1962) is an American guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, music producer, and disc jockey. Known for his uniquely deep and droning singing voice, Johnson was a founding member of the bands Cool Rays, Beat Happening, Dub Narcotic Sound System, The Go Team and The Halo Benders. Calvin Johnson is also the founder and owner of the influential indie label K Records and has been cited as a major player in the beginning of the modern independent music movement. Come Out (Reich)
''Come Out'' is a 1966 piece by American composer Steve Reich. Reich was asked to edit down tape footage into a form of collage for a benefit for the Harlem Six and ''Come Out'' was a byproduct of the collage's production. The Harlem Six were six black youths arrested for a murder of Margit Sugar, a Hungarian refugee, in Harlem in the weeks following the Little Fruit Stand Riot of 1964. Only one of the six was responsible while the lead witness is generally considered the actual perpetrator. Truman Nelson, a civil rights activist and New Yorker who had asked Reich to compose a sound collage that was separate from ''Come Out'', gave him a collection of tapes with recorded voices to use as source material. Nelson agreed to give Reich creative freedom with the tapes that he presented him for the sound collage.
