Volunteering
Volunteering is a voluntary act of an individual or group wikt:gratis, freely giving time and labor for community service. Many volunteers are specifically trained in the areas they work, such as medicine, education, or emergency rescue. Others serve on an as-needed basis, such as in response to a natural disaster. Etymology and history The verb was first recorded in 1755. It was derived from the noun ''volunteer'', in 1600, "one who offers himself for military service," from the Middle French ''voluntaire''. In the non-military sense, the word was first recorded during the 1630s. The word ''volunteering'' has more recent usage—still predominantly military—coinciding with the phrase ''community service''. In a military context, a volunteer military, volunteer army is a military body whose soldiers chose to enter service, as opposed to having been conscripted. Such volunteers do not work "for free" and are given regular pay. 19th century During this time, America expe ...

Initially, VSK Aarhus, IK Skovbakken used the stadium as their home ground before the club moved to the newly established sports complex Vejlby-Risskov Idrætscenter.

Riis Skov
Riis Skov (''Riis' Forest'' or ''The Forest of Riis'') is a forest and park in Århus, Denmark. It is located south of the district of Risskov, along the Bay of Aarhus. History This small patch of forest, was formally presented to Aarhus in 1395, by Queen Margaret I. Riis Skov was the first public forest in Denmark, where forests traditionally were owned and managed by the Royal family or the nobility and in some cases ordinary farmers. Timber and firewood were very important resources in former times, needed for shipbuilding, house construction and various other important structures, or simply for heating and cooking. Although Riis Skov was a public forest, there was still active forestry going on until around the year 1800, when the large oaks were cut and used for quay-building in the Aarhus harbour. A few of them are still left, as some of the oldest trees in the forest. The forestry aspect gradually diminished and Riis Skov was increasingly viewed as a recreational area by th ...

Working Class
The working class (or labouring class) comprises those engaged in manual-labour occupations or industrial work, who are remunerated via waged or salaried contracts. Working-class occupations (see also " Designation of workers by collar colour") include blue-collar jobs, and most pink-collar jobs. Members of the working class rely exclusively upon earnings from wage labour; thus, according to more inclusive definitions, the category can include almost all of the working population of industrialized economies, as well as those employed in the urban areas (cities, towns, villages) of non-industrialized economies or in the rural workforce. Definitions As with many terms describing social class, ''working class'' is defined and used in many different ways. The most general definition, used by many socialists, is that the working class includes all those who have nothing to sell but their labour. These people used to be referred to as the proletariat, but that term has gone out of ...

Subsidized Housing
Subsidized housing is government sponsored economic assistance aimed towards alleviating housing costs and expenses for impoverished people with low to moderate incomes. In the United States, subsidized housing is often called "affordable housing". Forms of subsidies include direct housing subsidies, non-profit housing, public housing, rent supplements/vouchers, and some forms of co-operative and private sector housing. According to some sources, increasing access to housing may contribute to lower poverty rates. Types Co-operative housing Some co-operative housing may offer subsidized units, but its main mandate is not subsidization. Its operating mandate is to offer non profit housing, where the rents or housing charges as they are called, goes back into the maintenance of the building instead of the profit of a landlord. Co-operative housing is controlled by the members of the co-op, which is run by a board of directors. There is no outside landlord. In most cases, all r ...

Trøjborg
Trøjborg is a neighborhood in the city of Aarhus, Denmark in Skt. Johannes parish with about 11,000 residents as of 2015. The neighborhood is part of the district Aarhus N and borders the neighborhoods Nørre Stenbro to the South West, Risskov to the North and Riis Skov and the Bay of Aarhus to the East. Trøjborg is delimited by the streets Dronning Margrethesvej, Trøjborgvej and Nordre Ringgade. Etymology Trøjborg, formerly Troyæborg, is used to denote buildings and areas in several places in Denmark. The name originates from the labyrinth at the castle of the classical Troy and is often used to name places that are naturally labyrinthine. In the case of Aarhus, the name is first seen in a document from 1632 mentioning Trøjborgbæk and again in 1758 when a garden called Trøjborg beyond the city gate at Mejlgade was sold. The name is likely a reference to the hilly landscape around Riis Skov. History The neighborhood developed as a working-class district in response to ra ...

Vejlby
Vejlby is a north-eastern neighbourhood of Aarhus in Denmark. It is located 5km from the city centre and is administratively part of the district of Risskov. The neighbourhood of Vejlby was administratively merged with Risskov at the end of the 20th century and as a consequence, the district is often seen referred to as Vejlby-Risskov nowadays. There are several other places named Vejlby in Denmark, like the small village in the vicinity of Grenå on Mols, featured in the acclaimed novella "The Rector of Veilbye" by Steen Steensen Blicher. Once a village and a suburb, Vejlby has now completely merged with the city of Aarhus, but can still present areas characterised by the old village around the old church and graveyard. Modern buildings of note, are the shopping mall of Veri Center, the dormitory of Børglum Kollegiet with its notable architecture, a nursing and retirement centre, the large sports complex of Vejlby-Risskov Idrætscenter, the large residential areas of Veripark ...
